    Private Loan

Please I will like to know more about Xavier University Aruba because I am planning to go there on January 2009. Am from Nigeria in west Africa and also U.S citizen but my main problem is where to get private loan for caribbeans medical schools. I live in Atlanta and Please any Nigerian Students here? and any Current Xavier students here? Please I will like to know everything about the school and financial situation because I am very poor and my family don't have it. I am not worry about going to practice here in America because my main purpose is to work with United Nation or with African Countries because over there they really need doctors to help them get well from their sickness.

Hello All. In regards to the question of obtaining Student loans. As a U.S Citizen you are eligible for Federally Backed loans that are guaranteed by the Federal Government and readily available in most Banks. You will have to fill apply for FAFSA (Financial aid), which would provide about $40,800/yr (Stafford: 6 or 6.80% fixed interest rate and Parent/Gradplus 8.50% fixed interest rate), if these don't cover it, you can then apply for Private student loans, which are dependent on you having a good credit history.
By the way, I am also Nigerian. I will be attending either AUC OR SGU in 2009. I am not a citizen of the U.S and therefore eligible for only Private Student loans with a U.S Co-signer.

I understand that only the big three " SGU, ROSS and AUC" are eligible for Federally backed loans. So, if you decide to attend Xavier you will most certainly have to apply for Private student loans. I would shoot for Wellsfargo, Sallie Mae and Citibank.

It would be really hard for you to find loans from US lenders if you are not a US citizen, unless you can get some real close relative to cosign for you. The interest rates would depend on the cosigners credit rating.
