    Admission without finishing undergrad?

hey, I was just wondering, on Windsor's site it says the prerequisite courses you need to be accepted to the MD program (one year of undergraduate chemistry and biology). If you just do those courses, with a few others, but not finishing your undergrad degree, can you still get admission? Have any of you guys done that and got admitted?

Get a degree before coming...it will make getting residency easier. And may be you might be able to get into a US/Canadian medical school. Usually the students with out undergrad degrees don't make it far in medical school. They lack discipline and study habits.

    Get an undergrad degree first.
    Reasons:
    1. Always have a backup plan. The residency match is tough and its only getting tougher. Year over year windsor has a matched anywhere from 5-15 people into US residencies. Be prepared for the possibility that you dont match or dont succeed. Not everyone is cut out for med school.
    2. Residency programs will know you didnt finish college (its part of your application). They will be less likely to accept you if you didnt finish further complicating #1.

Now out of the amount that got residency do you have any idea of how many actually applied because that is a scary number because I'm imagining 50-100 people applying.

Completing your pre-med degree is good advice. It is true that it helps in the match. Then there is the matter of minimum required pre-med credits that the licensing boards will require. You will need at least 90 credit hours.

Now in regards to residencies, you have to remember that IMGs can pre-match, and in the few fields of study like family med, or IM, they are happy to get the spot filled, especially if its not highly sought after. Also, there could be a good number of students who dont report back to the school. I know that when Im done and my balance is paid, with diploma in hand, I really have no reason to get in contact with the school. Also there are plenty of Nigerian and Canadian students who may not even be trying to practice in the US. So numbers that small may in reality be close to a 50% or higher MATCH rate. You never know since the school is not really providing those kind of stats.

hey I am an undergrad, just finished my second year ...however without a bachelors degree...does Windsor Medical School still means a "no-no" for me.?..since University of Toronto is hell expensive and I decided to go for the medical school before getting completely doomed by the loans for the bachelors degree.
I am so confused and discouraged !!

    ^ Hello fellow Canadian.
Personally I would feel more safer to finish the bachelors degree. As several people have mentioned it tough getting an Residency position. It makes it more tough since Windsor is not NY or CA approved. Also someone mentioned above that you need 90 credits to practice in most states. 90 credits= 15 UofT credits. Which means you should be done third year which means your only 5 credits away from a degree. Also you should take the MCAT and Apply to some Canadian and American schools.

I understand its tough when your living on OSAP but adding an extra 14,000 to the loan amount is not that bad for a fall back option. Think of it like this you pay 15,000 per year for Windsor which is only tuition that does factor in living costs when in the states and etc. So your are 50,000+ down by the time your done....but you didnt match! You have no bachelors degree so you can only relay on your highschool diploma! That would be really tough.

Another point you are really lucky to go to UofT...I go there. If you know Windsor is where you want to go at the end of the day plan for it. Spend some time taking classes that would better prepare you. Ex: PSL 302/ANA300/PCL 201 if you haven't already.

I know I'm rambling but a couple of months ago I was sitting where you were but the help of several people on this board let me see the light... and us Canadians must help each other! SO PLEASE GET YOUR UNDERGRAD

The class sizes have gotten a lot bigger from when Dave2626 or even I did basic sciences. From talking to an HCP student last night that just passed the step...classes are now about 100+ students per semester. So the amount of students matching should be higher....but with no data from the school we its just a guess either way. But, residencies have just started so get to Googling people...
