Question Do You guys think im READY for (pre)MED SCHOOL??

    Hey Everyone.

    I REALLY need EVERYONE's input...

Im a student in new york and i graduated from high school two years ago with an 89% gpa. Since then i'v attended two years of undergrad college with the intention to later go into Med School. During the two years iv taken 1 yr bio (grade: B-), 1 semester general chem (grade: C), 1 semester organic chem (B+), 1 semester calculus(B-)...and a list of humanities courses in which i got B+ on average...

As you can see i did not perform too spactacular. I dont no if you guys would remember...u know how it is when ur fresh out of high school and the immaturity and 'senioritis' hasnt worn off yet.

Well, Now that i'v got my head on straight, i truly believe i have the potential to perform better if i had less distractions. Thats why i was thinking i should go away from home. I was surfing the web for schools and i came across the the Windsor Medical School...so far this is the only school iv found that offers premedical prepration that leads to medical carriculum.
I was wondering whether or not I should apply to this school and start from premed onwards.

Im currently uncertain and confused as to what i should do. PLEASE..any whose been in a similar postion (and everyone else who has not)...what do u think i should do???
also..what other schools offer such premed classes that lead into a medical carriculum?
and do i stand a chance at getting accepted??

I am kind of lost, if you only took one semester of chemistry, how did you take organic chemistry? I would highly guess that you try to get at least your bachular degree first before setting down into caribbean medical school.

Besides Windsor, there are other caribbeans that also premed... AUA and Sint Eustatius should be withini your reach too...

Like I said, and most people will say too, try to finish your BA/** first.

If you really want to do the premed program, consider the one that Ross have... I am not sure if AUC or Saint George have one...

Ross, Saba, MUN-N, AUA, and Sint Eustatius.... I would really consider for...

I am not sure how stable Saint James, or Windors are...,

To really getinto medical school you will not be able to realy receive any Cs on any of the premed science requirements. maybe 1 and thats it. Most people will say that carib schools have a science gpa of 3.1-3.4, DO=3.5-3.7, American MD 3.8+. The MCAT scores are also arranged in the same pattern.

Also schools are going to look at your grades individually each semeter, so if you took a year of general biology when you say you received a B- average does that mean you received a B and a C+? or B- and B-? see where I am going with this.

As for what you should do, I can only tell you what I'd do, if you must move away to accomplish your goals. Move away to a 4 year university. Get your Bachelours degree in whatever you want, and make sure you take all the premed science requirements and end up with at least a 3.2+science gpa. Take the MCAT somewhere in your JR year, at end of jr year apply to med schools. Also in there, there are alot of things like volunteering, community service, MD/DO shadowing that you should also be doing.

Do not quote me on this but I believe i have read that to practice in the United states you need like 90 credit hours of undergrad done in the US?

I dont know if this will even help yu but it is a start to things you should type in the search box and start reading medical school admissions.

    Eric

Note: Most colleges require gen chem1+2 done before you can proceeed to organic 1 +2, odd yours is quite different.

Hey Eric. Thanks for your input.

I have another question...does it matter (much) which school you did your undergrad in? Iv been talking to a lot of people lately about my situation...and mostly people say that the college i attend is generally very harsh on grading, that its hard to get A's the science courses in this particular college...should transfer to an easier college? or would that be a step in the wrong direction?

If word of mouth is that it is very hard to get A's and you believe it. Then it would probably be a good idea to attend an university where you know A's are possible.
