Isn't much less expensive if you live in the dorm/apartment provided by the school than if you find off campus housing yourself ? and the internet and other services are also present in the dorm/apts right ? as in you don't need to arrange it by yourself (which you would have to if you were to find your own place).

no with school the rent and maintence fees included it comes out to about 375/month + there are other bills electricity+internet+cable+ etc whatever you want

the schol has even started charging extra fees for most new places.

i pay about 250/month for a place in brock, this includes cable but not the electricity and internet

so you found your own place, but do you get picked up by the school's bus though ?

can you describe the mode of tranportation and how easy/hard it is, say when you need to go for grocery shopping, sightseeing, etc.

no you usually dont get picked up by the school bus

but if your housing is in an area where school buses usually run there is nothing stopping you from getting on one

There are local HBuses that provided transportation around the entire island. If you live in one of the small towns by the main road then you wont have a problem catching an HBus to school. But if you're in areas like Frigate Bay where HBuses infrequently run then you shoudl get a car or depen on HBuses or get a cab which is pretty expensive (10-15 US Dollars per trip)

Can it be done with £50k approx $98k???
I also have family in Atlanta, Georgia so I might be able to reduce cost for rotations

Expenses on the island (MD1 - MD4) will range you at LEAST $2000/US/sem= $8000

School Fees:
$500/SEM DORMSURCHARGE (could have increased not a lot tho) x 4 SEM =$2000
$200 Health Maintenance Fees
Project 2400 = $80/semester x 4 = $320
Total School Fees = ~$2,500

Airline Costs = On average $1,000 to and back 4 times = $4,000.

MD5 Carbondale

Add Flying/Driving Costs to Carbondale from US/Canada anywhere from $200 - $700. I drove and cost me about $250 (I'm using this figure for total costs)

Rent / room = $650/month SINGLE OCCUPANCY x 4 months = $2600
Internet = INCLUDED IN ABOVE PRICE
Carbondale Expenses (Grocery, Gym, Misc) = ~$1500

Total MD5 (excluding tuition costs, which was included above) = $3895 for the 4 months + ($250/one way gas x2) = $4395 Total Costs

Clinical Rotations
Excluding Tuitions for MD6 - MD10
In the Chicago Area,
Hospital Fees = Each rotation costs you $125/ week x 72 weeks = $9000
Rent for a 2 bedroom Apt goes easily for $1200/ month x 2 years (give or take) = $28,800 TOTAL RENT divided by 2 with a roommate = $14,400 for 2 years.
Insurance Costs During Rotations = $900/ year for 2 years = $1800

USMLE Costs
Step 1 = $695
Step 2CS = $1200
Step 2CK = $695

If you take any USMLE Prep Courses, they range you anywhere from $3,500 + $10,000 depending on what you take. I took a Kaplan Course that cost me ~$5,500 so I will be using that for the total cost calculation.

Graduation Fee = $500

Living Expenses for 2 years in Chicago = ~$10,000

TOTAL COSTS FOR EVERYTHING
~= $120,000 +/- $10,000 depending on your standard of living
very nice thx for the post

Hello all,
I got this in my offer letter "There is a US $125 surcharge fee due per month while on the Island" Is that mean there is addition $125 per month on top of all the cost?

Dorm surcharge....125$ per month = 500$

We did not have one until some students refused to clean their homes, did not pay power, and broke all sort of stuff in the homes. So, if you don't think that what other students do affects you, it does. So, report them before we all have to pay for them.
