Total cost?

Hey guys! Just wanted to know if someone who's been through the whole at Windsor could give a ball park area estimate on $$$$ for this deal? I know lots of people transfered, and that changes things. But is there anyone who did their studies at Windsor from scratch? Since there are no viable loans for U.S citizens I wonder what it's gonna run, and how much moving it involves. I'm from NY area. But going to more expensive schools with NY approval, and a hope for rotations there is not really warranted at this time, with an exception of SGU. But that's waaaaay beyond my financial reality.

Thanks

Starting from MD1 - MD10, Tuition = $4,990 x 10 = $49900

Expenses on the island (MD1 - MD4) will range you at LEAST $2000/US/sem= $8000

School Fees:
$500/SEM DORMSURCHARGE (could have increased not a lot tho) x 4 SEM =$2000
$200 Health Maintenance Fees
Project 2400 = $80/semester x 4 = $320
Total School Fees = ~$2,500

Airline Costs = On average $1,000 to and back 4 times = $4,000.

MD5 Carbondale

Add Flying/Driving Costs to Carbondale from US/Canada anywhere from $200 - $700. I drove and cost me about $250 (I'm using this figure for total costs)

Rent / room = $650/month SINGLE OCCUPANCY x 4 months = $2600
Internet = INCLUDED IN ABOVE PRICE
Carbondale Expenses (Grocery, Gym, Misc) = ~$1500

Total MD5 (excluding tuition costs, which was included above) = $3895 for the 4 months + ($250/one way gas x2) = $4395 Total Costs

Clinical Rotations
Excluding Tuitions for MD6 - MD10
In the Chicago Area,
Hospital Fees = Each rotation costs you $125/ week x 72 weeks = $9000
Rent for a 2 bedroom Apt goes easily for $1200/ month x 2 years (give or take) = $28,800 TOTAL RENT divided by 2 with a roommate = $14,400 for 2 years.
Insurance Costs During Rotations = $900/ year for 2 years = $1800

USMLE Costs
Step 1 = $695
Step 2CS = $1200
Step 2CK = $695

If you take any USMLE Prep Courses, they range you anywhere from $3,500 + $10,000 depending on what you take. I took a Kaplan Course that cost me ~$5,500 so I will be using that for the total cost calculation.

Graduation Fee = $500

Living Expenses for 2 years in Chicago = ~$10,000

TOTAL COSTS FOR EVERYTHING
~= $120,000 +/- $10,000 depending on your standard of living

good break down...

just fyi:

dorm surcharge is now $125/mth or was so up until my last semester ($500/semester total)

single room in carbondale is $650/mth inclusive of internet.

gas prices have gone up ALOT in Carbondale...when I arrived it was 2.80/gallon...its now touching almost $4/gallon...so that does eat into costs.

my advise is that whatever you budget for your ENTIRE schooling, add another 10-15% to factor in any added cost that might come...some spend more than others...its all about what you do outside school...party/eat out instead of cooking, etc....

I study a lot in places in and around carbondale... I've been to chicago once and I've been to St. Louis 3 times since I've been here, plus lots of random driving around in the boonies. I have filled up my gas tank 5-6 times MAX since January. I have an SUV. The town is tiny. You don't really use much gas since it's minimum only one radio song from point A to point B.

Thanks!

Thanks very much WindsorMD and others wo responded. Great info. Though, I understand if I went HCP route I won't have to do Carbondale(?). Anyway great posts. Could anyone add anything on this Year's residency placements and permanent licensure by WUSM grads?

MGIN2009, definitely merge two threads. I must have pnched in differenty keywords when I was doing my search. But that other thread did not come up.

Thanks all again
