The basic idea is finishing up your medical degree, passing the boards, and getting a spot. The rest will usually materialize in form or another.

Its a lot different from 2004 now. All WSOM students should do clerkships at ACGME hospitals....The informed student has the option of doing clerkships thru Windsor. They just have to request the option.
Just as a side note...clerkships in the US are much better than in foreign countries...such as India, Pakistan, Europe. From the students that I have spoken to they basically do observer ships. And at some schools you can pay extra to get out of them. For a foreign grad your scores and USCE experience are key! If you do not believe me read this thread from Prep4USMLE. LINK

If you cant take and pass (and do well) the USMLE step 1 after 5 semesters of studying then you should just walk out into the sea and keep walking...
Seriously, just take the test before clinicals so you can start getting ready for step 2 CK during you clinicals

The term clerkship and ACGME clerkship is a bit over--rated, since you don't really learn as much in clinicals as compared to the first year of residency, anyways. In the end, its all the same. Bottom line....

I do not think that Windsor ever offered rotations at the hospitals you mentioned. And for a Caribbean school to be affiliated with a university program that also has a medical school would be impossible. Places like Mercy, JPH and Cook county are more the options for us. And currently we have students doing rotations at all three. (ACGME)
On another note I think the school has improved greatly from the time you attended. From what I have noticed, students from older batches tend to be more negative about the school than current ones. I think that its mainly due to the fact the students and admin at that time were not too informed about the whole process (clinicals to Residency.) I think the batches after mine are even more up to date. It is a process and the admin with their lack of communication and "Desi" mentality makes it worse. Information gets leaked out in small pockets...to one group of students and then the next. By the time you get the info its totally distorted. Thats why its better to do your own reaserch. But, there are students here like WMD, Dave2626, Fry, alQ and several others that are giving back to the current students...help/info that they never got. Mainly because classes before them never offered...or cared enough to bother. I think you are the first of your batch of 2004 to post and communicate with the rest of us...and for that I thank you!

During my Kaplan course were I met several students from India. Most of the stories were the same..."pay a little cash...and get out of clinicals." While some may have gone this route...several others I met really did clerkships. I agree with you...Nepotism and Cash..is prevalent everywhere. s

what if we do not do ACGME clerkships due to availability or what not, will there be licensure/residency issues in states that do not require ACGME/greenbook rotations?

The only thing I can think of that provides solace is...look at the students that went to Windsor and HAVE licenses...we have seen them posted right? (I think there is a list)...anyways....they mostly did the Atlanta rotations and managed to get licensed... Its not an exciting thought to know we are screwed in a number of states, but i guess comforting that worst case scenario - we can get licensed somewhere. I just hope that endorsements from one state will let me into Michigan or elsewhere.
