513 points Congratulations SGU!
510 points I can't comment on SGU, but as a former Ross student, I can attest to the fact that Ross does not provide training at the same level as vet schools in the U.S. Besides the fact that it doesn't have a real teaching hospital, its attrition rate is abominable and it doesn't support its students. Check out: Stop DeVry!
513 points AVMA approval implies equivalency with American programs. I tend to think that approval committee is well enough informed to make that call. SGU's culture historically shows itself to be polar opposite of Ross'. SGU has low attrition and award winning student supports.
Sorry to hear that your experience at Ross was less than positive. Why not check out SGU's program? SGU advertises they will pay your way for a campus visit upon acceptance, for the med program anyway, not sure if that includes vets too. Can't hurt to call and ask.
510 points I don't see how anyone can say that Ross is equivalent to American schools, and I don't think its recent accreditation implies that it is. As for applying to SGU, after my experience at Ross, I'm leery of all Caribbean schools. Anyway, Ross has destroyed me financially and I can't borrow any more money. Also, I'm too old to start over -- I'm 55 now.
510 points Are you saying Ross is equivalent to Cornell?
510 points To whom are you addressing this question?
If it is this portion:
I think that statement is accurate. We're talking about a basic level of equivalency here. There could be all sorts of comparisons and 'elitisms' with regard to which school is better than that school but, with my limited understanding as I am not an AVMA officer, the AVMA is focusing on fundamentals, not rankings.
