FYI: Hills and Purina have included themselves in the recall. Many veterinarians are now recommending each person check the labels of their pet food and NOT feed any pet food with wheat gluten.

Also the previous post of aminopterin as the causative agent has changed to melamine according to the FDA. Many seem to be disagreeing with this, however, because melamine is much less toxic than aminopterin. Cornell still stands behind its dx of aminopterin.

Unfortunately, I too have have lost my beloved cat on 3/28. He was only 12 years old and seemed completely healthy. His death was sudden during the night. I'm really having a hard time dealing with his death as it is, but I couldnt imagine the anger i would have if the food caused his death.

Even though he only ate dry food and was the brand wasnt associated with menu foods, we still had a autopsy done. Apparently he had congenital hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and managed to live a pretty long asymptomatic life up until the end.

RIP bageera "baggy"

My condolences, Scott1981. I only had my cat 3 years, so I can imagine what you must be going through. Are you getting another? Me, not ready, not until this whole pet food thing gets worked out.

My dog drowned today so I understand what you're going through. I had her for 17 years. But it motivates me to become the best veterinarian that I can be and save as many lives as I can. God bless.

its really hard. we have another cat at home and she seems to be going through a mourning process as well. we noticed that she spends her time just staring out the window. she knows what happened because when we found bageera, she was licking his legs trying to get him to respond.

she just seems very lonely right now. everywhere in our apartment seem to remind me and my wife of him. its definetely tough.

we are going to start to just browse some pet shelters and see if anybody catches our eye that will make a good playmate for our other cat and a good friend to me and my wife.

however, i think it may still be too soon for us emotionally because all we seem to do is look for qualities that our beloved baggy had. im afraid that we will be dissappointed with every cat because its not baggy. i guess we are going to take it slow and not jump into anything too fast.

Yeah, this is how I feel also. Well, all we got is time, it's a healing process.
