Don't forget the state medical boards, too! I hear they have some say as to who gets licensed...

Best of luck in your business venture!

wait...

Not listed yet with WHO or IMED.

One should wait till the school get at least this very basic requirement in place before sending them any money.

i agree

with dt, that the basic requirements should at least be met (this for prospective US students anyway) before even considering this school, or any other new one's for that matter. There are ,however, better alternatives for those who can't wwait.

Some more info about our school

General Information:

Norms and regulations shall have slight variations, depending upon your nationality. The following information is an example for U.S. Citizens.

First of all the candidate should be aware of the laws of the state where they may intend to practice medicine or where they live. The United States is like (50) individual countries with different laws. This is difficult for anyone to understand and handle.

WE DO NOT OFFER ADVANCED STANDING FOR CREDIT DONE OUTSIDE OF A RECOGNIZED MEDICAL SCHOOL PROGRAM.

Second of all, NON-TRADTIONAL education is NOT FOR EVERYONE. This applies even more if we consider this program is about medicine. This is directed towards a mature audience with formed criteria. Since you will not have a PROFESSOR to police your activities, you have to be sure this type of program is right for your needs. When we developed the program, it is oriented towards working adults, single parents, traveling salespersons, and others who have always dreamed of studying medicine but now have reached a certain age and may not have that opportunity. Of course the program was also created because in our country, medicine is offered in SAN JOSE, COSTA RICA (the nation's capital) and not everyone can afford to travel to San Jose to live and study medicine. By using the internet, we can work around this situation. The same type of situation applies in Panama. In panama, the only other province out side of the capital city that offers medicine and surgery is the province of CHIRIQUI. There are (2) faculties of medicine in the Province of Chiriqui , in David city.

(1) COLUMBUS UNIVERSITY. They used to offer the entire program at their DAVID, CHIRIQUI, campus. Even though they are recognized by the UNIVERSITY OF PANAMA to offer M.D. degrees, they have had so many problems that they now only offer half of the program in David city and the rest you have to transfer to the capital city of panama. Not everyone in panama has the financial capacity to move to the Capital city to finish their degree. So our program is attractive for a person in this situation.

(2) THE UNACHI UNIVERSITY. The UnaChi stands for UNIVERSIDAD NACIONAL DE CHIRIQUI. It's actually the former campus for the Universidad de Panama. Chiriqui is big on its autonomy from the rest of the provinces in Panama and they wanted their own University. Well they have it but the same as Columbus, they have to transfer half way through the program to Panama to finish. In other words from one end of the country, practically to the other end of the country.

We encourage any and all potential candidates to explore every option available to them, before they commit to a program like ours. There are many medical schools and each one has its advantage.

We are a (4) year allopathic Medical Doctor Program.

During the course of the (4) year program, North American students can work towards their:

(1) Bachelors Degree in Medical Science.
(2) Masters Degree in Medical Science.
(3) Doctor of Medicine and Surgery Degree.

THE PROGRAM:

Our program works like this.

Upon acceptance and enrollment, the student is given a password, so he can download the course objectives and the student study guide.

When the student has any questions, they shall send the questions to the course instructor, with a CARBON COPY, to the school.
This way the school can monitor, that the instructor replies to the email in a prompt fashion.
Each week, the student and the instructor shall coordinate a time to interact in a live chat session.
Chat sessions, shall be conducted through one of the major chat clients available on the internet (ICQ, MSN, AOL, ETC..).
Why?
Well no matter how long we searched, we were not able to find a program that worked better than one of the major ones offered on the market and the fact that most students screened during the development phase of the program said they had a chat client of their preference.

Each time the course instructor, sends a reply, a CARBON COPY of the ANSWER shall be sent to the school.
The school shall then, in a BULLETIN BOARD FORMAT, post both the question and the answer on the BULLETIN BOARD, to create a data base that will be available to the other students for future reference.

The weekly sessions in live chat format will be available to the student if they desire.

Each week a small research project shall be assigned.

Mock tests shall be sent to the student for them to fill out and send back to the course instructor. The idea is to see the progress of the student and to take corrective measures in time in the areas that need reinforcement.

Our program monitors Instructor-Student interaction. We will not allow lazy instructors in our program. Professors who mistreat their students (very common here) will not be tolerated in our program. We don't need professors who like to show off or look down at their students. We are not after quantity but quality. If we see a student failing, we shall immediatly intervene to find out why. We shall allow an equal voice from both student and course instructor. But we will take into account the student. How many students feel fear to denounce their professors? In our learning institution the student is above all else. We have taken away alot of the burocracy and given the student DIRECT communication with the School administration. The student shall know that he can even over step the DEAN of Medicine if the need arises. The students voice shall be heard. This is why we demand a CARBON COPY of each question and answer session. Of each weekly live chat session.

But of course this does not mean that students can be lazy. They have to pull their load as well.

What are tests like:

Mid term and Final term tests are PROCTORED.

Who may serve as a proctor?

(1) Most Universities, Community Colleges, Jr. Colleges, offer proctoring services.
(2) Members of Clergy of a recognized world Religion (ROMAN CATHOLIC PRIEST, JEWISH RABBIS, MUSLIM SHEIK, PASTORS, ETC...)
(3) Members of Parliament or Congress who may assign their secretaries to proctor the test.
(4) Member of the POLICE FORCE with the Rank of SEARGENT or above.
(5) Member of the ARMED FORCES of your country with the Rank of Sergeant or above.
(6) Mayors office.
(7) Governors office.
(8 ) Notary Public.
(9) Judge.
(10) Diplomatic mission representative of a recognized NON terrorist state. (Ambassadors, consuls, etc...).
(11) Hospital staff physician.
(12) Professor of a local University.
(13) Secretary of your local chamber of commerce.
(14) Recognized civic leader.
(15) Local military recruiter.

Someone of high moral fiber and is a recognized community leader, even though a student may cheat no matter who is sitting in front of them; but in the clinical phases of the medical school program in a hospital or clinical setting, you will not have the luxury of reading materials on hand. So it is best to endure the basic sciences phase with integrity.

Once each year, the student shall travel to the Universities training facilities in San Jose, Costa Rica for "clinics or clerkships". The purpose behind this is to test first hand the basic science knowledge of the student and to prepare them for the CLINICAL PHASE OF THE PROGRAM. Clinical aspects include, TAKING A HISTORY, PHYSICAL EXAMINATION, HOW TO INJECT, SUTURE, ETC...

On a case by case basis, the student may be able to obtain a waiver on having to travel to our testing facilities if the student can PROVE to the University that he/she shall obtain equal or better preparation in a local clinical setting.

Now, since we became aware that the North American student, may have to complete (2) years worth of credit "on site", we have implemented a plan to accommodate these students as well. On our part this is NOT OBLIGATORY, this is a possible regulation set forth by individual states. Now the (2) years you may have to complete on site can be distributed over the entire (4) years duration of the program. In other words you don't have to do the (2) years worth of credits sequentially. It's up to you. We understand that for economical reasons and family (2) years straight is a long time to be away from family and other business.

Our program allows the student to advance at there own pace. You do not have to take a full load. You can take individual subjects; but you must pass the subject below to qualify for the next subject.

We prefer you have completed a BIOLOGY, CHEMISTRY AND A MATHEMATICAL COURSE of (1) year in duration in each subject, in a Community college, Jr. College or University. If you do not have these courses completed we can offer them for you in an intensive fashion but until completion the candidate is on a PROBATIONAL ENROLLMENT STATUS.

The grading scale is 0-100 points
0 = lowest
100 = highest
Minimum passing is 75 points out of 100 possible points

Brochures are available upon request via email. Keep in mind that certain subjects are taken on the USMLE in a different order, we offer certain flexibility on which subjects shall be taken in which semester and we also shall offer alternative subjects in the CLINICAL PHASE since in the U.S.A. it seems that some courses are way to competitive for visiting student rotations or in your general area they may not be offered.

I hope this gives each of you a small outline about our program. Once again I am committed to answering questions but I have no intentions to fall into endless debates from those whose sole purpose it to pick at issues. If you are in this catagory, save your time and ours.

Thank you once again,

correspondence internet medical school

I see this school as another one that should be avoided by potential students, pure and simple. The degree from it will be questioned forever, like UHSA/IUHS, and the rest of the internet based schools.

WARNING

YOU CANNOT GET LICENSED IN THE US FROM A CORRESPONDENCE SCHOOL!!!!!!

Utter waste of time and money.

The program on the campus would be fine, as long as the school is IMED listed. G

Hello George:

Sorry to see you make statements you know nothing about. To enlighten you, we are not a correspondence school. You must be confused.

I think somethings being kept..if so spill it!!

You speak as if this school is has already crashed and burned and it interests me. You categorized this school with UHSA/IUHS. I am not 100% familiar with neither of the three institutions and manner of operations but obviously you are. Would you enlighten me of how this is possible if the program is quote "Coming Soon." There are students that wish to study medicine and there are a lot of bogus medical school out there. Lets not prejudge ladies and gentleman. If they're a joke, we will see them in the funny papers...untill then
