Exam experience
Hello Everyone,Just now i recieved my results by mail..I got 256/99,its a surprise for me..b'cause after giving the exam i was not even confident of passing. Although i was getting pretty decent scores in all practice exams and was confident before going for exam, but i felt exam was really tough. I don't want to scare anyone, but you have to be prepared for very long questions and therefore time is the main factor.
I studied for 3 1/2 mths..and i studied kaplan materials for all subjects. I reffered CMDT whenever i had some doubt..for all other subjects kaplan is sufficient, if supplemented with lot of questions. For last 2-3 wks i studied crush step 2 and UW notes.
Its hard to say which subject was more prominent in my exam, but medicine was everywhere. Also surgery and OB-GYN, but these questions were easy. I had more of Resp and CNS questions..and trauma from surgery.I had 2 MRI, 2 CT scans and 1 EKG, which were easy to interpret. The most confusing questions were from psychiatry...they try to confuse you as much as possible, so know how to differentiate one disorder from other like for eg. between affective disorder with psychosis and schizoaffective disorder.
The level of difficulty was same as NBME, but questions were very long.I was hardly able to finish each block on time..so always do questions in timed mode and always try to finish practice exam before atleast 10 -15 min..so that you don't have difficulty in real exam.
I did Kapaln Q bank (82%), UW (74%),kaplan Q book, prestest for paediatrics and surgery..and NBME I (650) and NBME (680). I would advice everyone to take NBME, b'cause the level of difficulty of questions and the correlation with real scores is best.
Lastly i will say that the exam is not so difficult, but time is a main factor, for which i think kaplan Q bank questions were a good practice and learn samll things which differentiate one disease from other. No need to remember rare diseases or syndromes.
Thanx to everyone in the forum..keep helping each other and good luck to all.
