advice for step 2 cs application

hi,
i am taking step 1 in march 2008, i heard that its difficult to get a step 2 cs date at last moment, i wanted advice if i should apply for step 2 cs now for this year july to ensure that i get a date or should i wait until april when i get my step 1 results and know that i passed to apply, or is that too late to apply for step 2 cs to do it in july ?
am not sure to apply now b4 my step 1 results or wait till after my exam, but i want to take step 2 cs in july.

Apply as early as possible for Step II CS - dates fill up 6-8 months in advance.
