The spleen acts as a filter of blood and removes aged&damaged RBCs,nuclear remnants within RBCs(Howell-Jolly bodies),denaturated Hgb within RBCs(Heinz bodies)and iron inclusions within RBCs(Pappenheimer bodies)
Target cells r asso/ thalasemia,liver disease,and any disease in which the surface-to-vol ratio of the RBC is incraesed.
