    Why hypercalcemia in sarcoidosis?

Dang it. I forgot this and searching the internet is becoming frustrating. I think I'm losing my Google touch.

Does anyone know off the top of your head why Sarcoidosis results in calcium chaos?

    Thanks!

    Caboose.

Epitheliod cells in Sarcoidosis contain 1 alpha hydroxylase which completes the second hydroxylation to form the active form of vitamin D. This leads to hypervitaminosis D. Vit D then leads to increased intestinal absorption of Ca2+ leading to hypercalcemia. Hope that helps...
