NEW SCHEDULE 4 CHAT GROUP...by STEP 1

About the new Schedule for the chat group...July 9th, 2004

THIS POST IS BY "STEP 1"

SCHEDULE FOR ON-LINE CHAT GROUP

1st week:BEHAVIORAL SCIENCE : July 12-17

2nd Week:ANATOMY : July 19-24

3rd Week:BIOCHEM : July 26-31

4th Week:PHYSIOLOGY : Aug 2-7

5th Week: MICROBIOLOGY : Aug 9-14

6th Week:PATHOLOGY : Aug 16-21

7th Week:PHARMACOLOGY : Aug 23-28

STEP 1...

" Hi everyone, it looks like you all are having some trouble getting things started again, so I thought I would help out since the chats helped me so much in my prep. I've already completed my exam (still waiting for results), but I will try to show up to these chats, at least to help get things rolling again. They really did help me alot, so I hope it will help everyone else too.

I think we should have a rolling system to restart the schedule every 7 weeks. So whether it's your 1st or 3rd reading, we can all gain from these chats together, especially since they keep you on a set schedule.
The biggest problem is that people don't want to join the chats because they feel they don't know the material well enough yet. I think that they will benefit alot from the chats.

From what I've seen, the ones closer to the exam reinforce their knowledge when explaining concepts to the first-time readers. The first-time readers learn from the ones who are further along (whether actively participating or just observing), than they pass on this knowledge to other newcomers which helps them understand the concepts further.

Plus it keeps everyone on the same study schedule where you can ask others to clarify and to emphasize the important points. Most of the learning takes place during the preparation of the chats where you review the material and try to prepare questions. The chats help you determine your weaknesses and reinforce what you've just studied. We were all first-time readers at one point or another, so don't be embarrassed if you feel you don't know the subjects very well. That is what we are here for. If you prefer, you can just remain a silent observer until you feel comfortable. But I guarentee you that nobody ever feels like they know it all or will ever portray that in the chat.

Like before, the group will meet 2 times per week, every Wed and Sat night at 9 PM Eastern time. Eastern Time is the time on the East Coast of the U.S.A. (New York). The time is set so that most people from around the world, whether it is morning or evening, will be able to attend. They typically last until no longer than 3 hrs max. Please be punctual so that we can make the most of our time. If you want to know what time that is in your part of the world, use this link:
http://www.timeanddate.com/worldcloc...0&sec=0&p1=179

* The week begins on Monday and ends with the chat on Saturday. Sundays are off.
* We will also communicate through this forum in between the chats
* For private messages, you can also sign up for the study group at
http://www.valuemd.com/groupcp.php?g=11344
* The schedule will also be posted on the online calendar soon at
http://www.valuemd.com/mycalendar.php

HERE IS THE 7 WEEK SCHEDULE that Roxanita posted for us originally, except converted to include the new dates. They are based on the Kaplan live lectures. We mostly use the Kaplan notes, but any source will work.

SCHEDULE FOR ON-LINE CHAT GROUP

1st week:BEHAVIORAL SCIENCE : July 12-17

2nd Week:ANATOMY : July 19-24

3rd Week:BIOCHEM : July 26-31

4th Week:PHYSIOLOGY : Aug 2-7

5th Week: MICROBIOLOGY : Aug 9-14

6th Week:PATHOLOGY : Aug 16-21

7th Week:PHARMACOLOGY : Aug 23-28

For the NEWCOMERS, which are always welcome, here is an Example of how it will take place:

According to this schedule:
THE FIRST CHAT of the new schedule WILL BE ON BEHAVIORAL SCIENCE and will take place on WED JULY 14TH AT 9 PM EASTERN TIME. We can go over Biostats, Epidemiology, Ethics, Learning and Behavior Modification during that first session; everything else from Behavioral (Personality, Psych Testing, Child Dev, Sleep, Physician Pt Relationship, DSM, Dementia and Delirium, etc.) on Sat July 17th at 9 pm Eastern.

Then we take Sun off and start preparing for ANATOMY on Mon July 19th. We can chat about Neuroanatomy and Histo on Wed July 21st and Embryo and Gross Anatomy on July 24th, with a day off on Sun July 25th. Well, you get the idea.

Your job is to read ahead and try to prepare questions to ask the group (this actually helps you understand the concepts better). You should also spread the word around so that we have lots of participation. With a large group, it keeps things running smootly even if some people can't always attend. For those who miss a session, there should be a transcript of the chat posted for each session.

The chat group also shares files, such as the 100 pg HY Goljan notes which are available in the free download area of this site. There are lots of other helpful goodies posted there. But if you have a file that isn't already there, please upload it so that everyone else can share it too.

I'm very excited about the new chat schedule. You will soon learn that everyone in the chat group has a common goal, and we can all provide each other with the support needed to meet that goal together. This bonds us together as a family and I'm very thankful to be a part of it.

So welcome to all the newcomers, and welcome back to all the regulars.

STUDY HARD AND I HOPE TO SEE Y'ALL IN THE CHAT !!! "

epi and biostats questions

hi everyone! hope everyone is motivated and studying hard. i can't wait to chat with everyone tomorrow. if you haven't had the chance, i've added about 10 questions on epi and biostats, the topic the study group should be studying. here is a list of those questions if you want to test your knowledge on what you've read....an apetitzer for tomorrow
The last one was brought up by Jeff a while back, but it is a very high yield concept that we should all learn for the exam.

rahat, we're all at different stages of studying (1st, 2nd, 3rd...readings), and all the ones who are further along were at the beginning stages not long ago. but the point is that i think we can all learn from each other, keep each other motivated, and provide support as a group. but i hope you will continue to join us, whether observing or actively participating, as long as it is helping you learn. as tommy has taught us, we are all part of a big loving family and together we can get through this scary exam

see everyone wed night at 9pm eastern in the step 1 chat room 8)
