Development theories

Next chat as you can see in the schedule will be anatomy ( histo, embryo and gross) . Whatever we are not able to cover on wednesday for lack of time ...we will discuss it on saturday along with neuroscience as accorded. :-splash Study hard!!!

After our discussion yesterday in the chat room here are some basics about the most important theories of development (Erikson, Freud and Piaget)

Enjoy and learn them very well!

SEXUAL EMOTIONAL AND COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT.
ERIK ERIKSON

dependant not on the maturation and control of sexual and agressive impulses but on the evolution of human interactions

First year: trust vs. mistrust
repeated experience from caregiver the child develops trsut in others as opossed to anxiety or uncertainty about others.

2 and 3 years old : Autonomy vs. doubt
sense of joy mastery and pride as she interacts with her body and environment for the first time= autonomy or she has few accomplishments, never rewarded so her efforts are useless and will require the intervention of others

4 to 6 years old: Initiative vs. guilt
how kids adapt their needs with the requirement of others. If they learn to adjust well and expect that interaction it will produce positive relationships= self confidence will grow; if not sence of guilt and will think their actions continually harm others inviting rejection.

6 years old to puberty : industry vs. inferiority
Must compete with others in development of intelectual, social, emotional and physical skills=sence of joy and accomplishment as opossed to sence od dread= inferior accomplishment.

Puberty through adolescence: identity vs. confusion
sence of importance, interpersonal skills, sence of oneself as unique from parents. Unsuccessful adolescent will continually be confused about their activities or roles.

20-30 yearls old: Intimacy vs. isolation
achieved a sence of personal identity

30-65 yearls old: generativity vs self absorption
can one do more than meet one's own desires? those who do not achieve these tasks may be individually productive but increasingly isolated.

65 and older: integrity vs. despair
who have found commitment devote themselves not to self interest but to the passing of wisdom and culture.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
FREUD AND PSYCHOSEXUAL DEVELOPMENT MODEL
developmental sequence of stages by which the personality develops its ability to manage anxiety and fulfill needs through socially acceptable means
Oral phase 0-1 years old
explores the world witht he mouth
Anal phase
1-3 yearls old
pleasure through mastery of anal function
Phallic phase 3-6 years old
Involves masturbation, sex identification and sexual differentiation
Latency stage
6-12 years old
stage of socialization, sublimation occurs in form of competitive activities, sexual impulses undergo repression.
Genital stage 12 and older
Able now to redirect his urges to genital sexual activity
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
THE COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT . JEAN PIAGET
Cognition is the process of organizing information. Adaptation takes place through assimilation used to deal with new situations, can also occur through accomodation where schemas are adapted to account for new information and new experiences

Birth to 2 years old: sensorimotor stage
Child masters his environment through assimilation and accomodation.

2 to 7 years old: Preoperational stage
begins to think in symbolic terms associated with laguage acquisition, egocentric (thinks everybody thinks like him) illogical and magic, animism.

7 to 11 years old. Concrete operations stage.
capable of logical (actio reactions effects), understands numbers, able to take another's point of view

11 years old until end ef adolescence. Formal operations stage
Abstract thinking, able to reason deductively and hypothetically.

have agreat day, see you on wednesday to discuss anatomy!!
