BRS Neuroanatomy

Well, I just finished med 4 and am preparing to take the Step 1. My neuroanatomy class in med 2 was inefficient... better word would be nonexistant (practically) so I have next to 0 knowledge when it comes to Neuroanatomy.

My med school is not the greatest but hey as long as I know in the end I will become a doctor without any problems regarding legitimacy. Anyways, since I dont have adequate background for neuroanatomy do you guys feel BRS: Neuroanatomy will be enough?

I also have another book... HY neuroanatomy and it has GREAT reviews but since I have no basic concepts of this subject I am afraid I would need to know more stuff to really utilize HY neuroanatomy well.

Basically I just want to know if its worth buying the book. I need to study all subjects (the right way) before I even think of taking the Step 1 and so I feel Neuroanatomy should be my top priority...

i dont think anyone would recommend brs neuro, it is too dense and hard to follow imo.

if you think you need neuro help with minimal background, i def. wont start with any review books at all, find an easy to read and small text and start there, kaplan might be a good source

i highly recommend LANGE - Clinical Neuroanatomy (Stephen G. Waxman)

it's somewhere in b/w a review book and a textbook.. if you have the time to go through it, it has really good diagrams/pics and is easy to read.

Thanks, I will check out Kaplan and Lange's, see which works for me. A friend of mine had Snell's Neuroanatomy... I didn't like it much. The pictures weren't that great IMO.

BRS neuro is not a very good book. Neuro in First Aid is great and more than adequate. Read FA and follow up with reference (search the net) if you dont understand certain things.
