lol.. what % was that? 50%? or less?
185 is passing by the way but 177 is pretty good for not taking an MD classes. |

It said I had gotten %40 of questions right - I read to do well you should be aiming to get %60-%70 of questions right, right? I am aware that a 177 puts me in the bottom %10 of AMG test takers, but I have more than 2 years left to learn the stuff I need. This USMLE form has great info and I would not have explored it for a while had your Thread not been moved from the St. George's forum, lol. Best of luck with you Step 1 studies. |

thanks.. yeah I posted this here in the usmle forum and the sgu forum just cause i know not a lot of sguers read the usmle forum, but the mods moved it... Kaplan says, 60-70% is what you need to pass.. but I did a practice nbme and got 230 and that equaled to 84% correct. And I got 70% one of the wiki test prep blocks and it said that correlated to 226. So we'll see. i'll be happy with either score.. good luck in med school.. study hard during the classes and step1 prep will be a joke... I didn't and I am busting my butt and freaking out on almost a daily basis, wish I could go back and redo my two years at SGU and this time I would study and not screw around, but what's done is done.. |

Details on the algorithm
Hey folks,
Thanks for the compliments and criticisms. I wrote the scoring algorithm so I thought i'd share a few quick points. The predicted Step 1 score is extrapolated from how you do (in terms of %) as compared to how your peers would do (in terms of aggregate %). Therefore, aiming for a 60-70% is relatively meaningless on WikiTestPrep, since our questions vary considerably in difficulty. Instead, you should aim to score 10%+ over the average on any test to score in the 230 range. There are many variables involved in such a calculation, but this score predictor should accurately tell you how you are doing relative to your peers that use WikiTestPrep as well. I would be very interested to hear how folks actually score as compared to their various predicted scores on WikiTestPrep. I would feel comfortable saying that WikiTestPrep should put you in about +/- 10 points of your actual score. Anyways... pay less attention to the prediction tool and more attention to getting every question right Abhas Gupta |
