Question USMLEWORLD (UW) formula

okay, so this formula... 2.39(uw)+ 84 = (close to your real score)

How valid is it? Any of you guys who took the exam already use this formula? Is it a good approximation?

-Gflip

BTW.. I want to thank the person who posted this formula....

2.39 IS a standard number so always you you will have 2.39.

Then UW means your cum% in usmle world so if you have 50% you will multiple your % with the standars #

2.39x 50= 119.5

then you add the # 84 that is another standard #, you will always add 84

2.39x50= 119.5 + 84= 203.5 0r 204 would be your 3 digit score

some people use 3.44 as standard.

not for me

when i took me exam last..my cumulative was a 43 percent..if i use that formula 2.39 x 43 + 84 it gives me a 186..that is about 10 points higher than i scored on the real thing..on the real thing i scored a 176..this was back in oct..my nbme form 2 was a 410, and form 3 was a 370 just to give reference..i knew i wouldnt do too well on it..but i expected to pass and it wasnt enough

chrisusmle,

Sorry to hear that you did not pass. What are you doing to prepare this time?

I think you should give UW another go, then take step 1 after you reach 55-60% or better. You can do it, but like IMG SURVIVOR and other posters have said, you have to work hard. Push yourself. You will succeed in the end.

Its very sad that you did not pass, traditionally when you hit more than 400 on the NBME test you are likelly to pass.

I also found interesting that based on the formula in UW you have a 186, and based on your nbme 3 you have a 184.

I remember someone that said to be on the safe side sustract 10 to your NBME score, so you know in worst case scenario where you stand.

I think you had a really bad test, with alot of hard questions

I will conclude that the best thing to do, to go with confidence to the test is to at least get a 450 or a 500 but at least a 450 in the NBME 3 to be sure that in the worst case scenario you will pass.

How many questions you did on the UW? and did you found those same concepts ask on the test?

I want to thank you for sharing your experience with us
I know this time around you will succed on your test

In the past NBME 2 now NBME 3.

SO the last test is NBME 3 and the one before is NBME 2
