    HY Concept 256

    HERE IS A GOOD ONE:

THE NBME has to make sure your hospital doesn't get hit with a lawsuit if you miss this one:

Case: A diabetes patient of yours suddenly complains of exophthalmosis (eye popping out) and headache, sinus pain, and fever.) If you are an expert, you can already guess before you see under a microscope:

90 degree NONseptate hyphae under methenamine silver stain.

    Bug and drug please?

    hi

This is SO SO classic for:

Mucormycosis. Almost 75% of hospitalized Diabetic patients have it. The key is the nonseptate 90 degree angled hyphae. It enters thru the nose. Treat quickly with Amphotericin B!
