this is based on a kaplan instructor:
the 2 digit score is NOT the percentage calculated from the 3 digit score. the 3 digit score has standard deviation of 20 while the 2 digit score (avg. is 84) with standard deviation of 4. the 2 digit score is derived from 3 digit score. just set a goal and try to acheive it. the waiting period to get results has to do with security reasons. cameras are constantly on you. the examiners check for irreularities on test results that would've possibly been due to cheating. so, they have to do security checks and that's why it takes time to get the results. |

Raising the passing score from 182 to 185 shouldn't be much of a problem for the majority of test takers. For those of you scoring around that margin then it may affect you. This just means you'll have to study harder. So don't worry too much about the logistics of the score being raised or how they compute them or why it takes so long.

wait i dont understand, when u do step 1, they send u a transcript saying A: You Passed/Failed B: They give u the Percentage and C: The score out of 300. Doesnt that tell u what u got on usmle... if ur talking about how 50 questions are removed, then i understand what u mean by how we cannot possibly know what we got on the exam, but that score should be proof enough on how many u got correct on usmle isnt it?....
