I passed step 1 last month (203/83). This was my second attempt. Not a great score, but Im happy. So, here is what I did. I did qbank for my first attempt and took notes on most of the answers. For my second attempt, I annotated my FA with the qbank and qbook answers/explanations. Then I went over it over and over again. I also listened to goljan audio lectures (probably 10 times). I also did Robbins Review of pathology questions (twice). I also did usmlerx qbank. Other questions I did were rapid review pathology questions (150 at the end of the book and 350 from the CD). The 150 usmle free cd questions. After taking my test, I can say that over 1/2 the test could have been answered from FA alone. As for kaplan videos, I recommend the physio and biochem videos. I didnt do them all (for physio I just did renal, endocrine, and cardio lectures and for biochem I just did the metabolism section)..these are the highest yield areas that are usually tested. I should have gone through the anatomy videos, considering that is where I scored on the lower end on my step 1. I listened to the above kaplan lectures twice. so repitition is the key! I also did all 4 nbme's (form 1 - 2 months before, form 4 - 1 month before, form 3 - 2 weeks before and form 2 - 2 days before) I felt that forms 2 and 3 closely resembled my Step 1 exam. Good luck. Your post says you really worked hard for this exam .I wish i could be as hard working .Every morning i am full of energy but as day passes i feel really disappointed(sounds like myasthenic crisis) .
It Feels like there is no end to this persuit .Wish i could keep walking strongly with faith like you . I have just heard Goljan twice ,q bank ,still doing UW and am exhausted .I did kaplan videos although it's been a while now .(3 months back).I haven't read FA in a while ,just reading rapid review ,med essentials these days .How are robbins patho q's ?Where can i find them ?Do you think they are essential for exam ? You can get more info about the Robbin's book here Amazon.com: Robbins Review of Pathology: Books: Edward C. Klatt,Edward C., MD Klatt,*****, MD Kumar I like the review book, used it for class exam prep and it served me well. I plan to go through it once more for Step 1. I find that the questions are tied really tightly to the text, though, so for many of the questions, it would help to read Robbins Pathology. Of course, not many would want to do this for boards prep. Personally, I like Robbins (the big one) and keep it near and dear

Im working on my 2nd attempt at step 1 and im lost. Im gonna be doin pass program soon, but my ? is for the ppl that have taken step 1 and failed the 1st time and then passed the second time do you feel it was "easier" the 2nd time compared to the 1st time and was ur 1st exam concentrated on 1 or 2 subjects compared to the 2nd attempt that may have been a more "HY" exam? I dont understand how these 2 types of exam can be graded on the same level considering a HY exam can be passed by studing First Aid and Qbank but the other type you will catch hell passing even if you have almost memorized a book dedicated solely to that subject. I might be thinking completely wrong but after failing the exam i have crawled under a rock and am finding it really hard to even open a book. I studied for like 5 months for this test and i believe if my exam would have been more evenly distributed( my exam felt like it was 90% Physio)that i would be in clinicals currently. Im just tryin t make sense of all this. Any advise would be great. Thanks in advance.

Help - Newbie

Clearly you have issues or gaps in your medical education you need to fill. Use the q-banks in BRS, Rapid review or some other review books. Get First Aid and begin reading it. Find out what you don't know. Don't walk in a take the Step 1 on a hope and a prayer. You need to build up doing questions until you are doing well. |

Dude - that is one of the worst answers/posts I have seen any regular poster give in the Step 1 area. Also your grammer is pretty poor - for example "answer this questions" you tense is off. People come here to get solutions not wise cracks. Just my .02s In your case I would want a full refund...
