Right-shift: 2,3-BPG, fever, high altitude, respiratory acidosis, low pH.. that is all that I can remember...

A good follow-up question to this:
Does anyone know why fever is so important?

also remember that you need fever.. b/c it right shifts your O2 dissociation curve... why do you need the oxygen? Goljan is talking to me loud and clear....

for the oxygen-dependent myeloperoxidase system...!!!! need the oxygen that joins up with NADPH oxidase..... make the hydrogen peroxide.. then it goes on to make the bleach.. so that it can kill the bacteria...

another good follow-up question... for those who have NADPH oxidase deficiency (CGD), what can they kill and what can they not kill? and WHY?

Staph aureus, Salmonella, and Pseudomonas will not be killed, while Strep will be killed because they produce their own H2O2 that builds up in the vesicle and kills itself.

every living organism can make hydrogen peroxide.. but not every living organism can make catalase... those organisms (all staph organisms, enterobacteriae, pseudomonas, aspergillus, candida?.. all that I can remember) that make catalase and/or cytochrome oxidase.. are able to neutralize the hydrogen peroxide and/or remove electrons therefore stopping the "killing" process..

Sorry forgot to mention the build up is due to lack of previously said enzyme. Thanks!
