    Question sleep cycle

    when does nightmares occur.....night terrors are stage3-4.....but dreams are REM....so what about nightmares?? thanks in advance

    i think it's still REM, nightmares are just bad dreams.

    thought that night terrors and nightmares are the same thing?

    after I wrote, and moved on... I realized that it was in the REM cycle... remember it occurs every 90 minutes... we all dream but sometimes those dreams can be scary. As the night continues, REM increases with the longest period during the early morning hours... and is why we sometimes remember the dreams especially if wake during a dream...

    and night terrors are stage 3-4 sleep, and you don't remember, which is a key difference from nightmares.
