nbme

from what i have heard, nbme #2 is more accurate than #1. i'll say it like this... there are people who HAVE failed with a 400 nbme, and those who have PASSED with a 340. i'd say the person who got a 340 and passed had an okay understanding of basic sciences (relatively , and was able to apply knowledge when the time was needed (and didn't get nervous, who knows). in my personal opinion, i wouldn't recommend people taking it unless you get a 450, just because you want to be above the 80/200 mark anyway as an img. if it takes an extra month of studying, so be it.

I agree with wcb22.. want to consistently improve with each NBME exam, meaning that you are going through the performance profile and reviewing those areas that were of lower performance... plus it increases your confidence and mindset in taking the exam...

nbme

one more thing... i've seen posts on here about answers to nbme questions. i strongly recommend skipping over these posts, don't even open them. if you read them, and then take your nbme exam, your will have a higher score, and a false sense of security.
sure, look at them after you've taken that particular nbme.
#1 and #2 are the well known ones, i have no idea what correlations you'll see with #3 and #4.
i recommend you take #1 about 2 months before the exam, really hammer any weak areas, and then take #2 within a week or so of the exam. it can be a huge confidence booster. many people go up 100 or more points in only 1 month, with a lot of study. if you take nbme #2 within a couple days of your USMLE, you will get that score, almost exactly, as long as you don't freak out. that's the purpose of it i think... to know where you stand, so come exam day, it's JUST LIKE CLOCKING IN YOUR 8 HOURS, and signing out, and you know what your score is b4 it comes in the mail. no sleepless nights for 4 weeks while you wait for your results. that might be worth the $45 right there!, you won't even need the oasis trick!
