A newborn baby is noted to have abnormal facies with low-set ears; a small receding jaw; and widely separated eyes. At 30 hours of age, the baby develops multiple muscle spasms. Serum studies are notable for calcium of 4.5 mg/dL. Dx. Please?

a-DiGeorge syndrome. You should be ready to recognize common Board favorites as quickly as you can your name and phone number… Oh, you should also REMEMBER that they can present a case of a child with a picture of an x ray without a thymus. Know B cell function is normal, since the thymus matures T cells. Finally, they "could" ignore a large part of the description of abnormal facies and focus on the LOW CALCIUM levels. Think of what kinds of infections they are prone to get!
