advice needed

hi, im new to this forum. need some advice. My sister took the step 1 last month and she was really confident about the exam. so much so that she was sure she had done almost 260+ qs/350 correct, even more perhaps. she got her result and is in a state of shock to see that her score is just a 67.
she is going to apply fora recheck but we arent too sure as to how they go about it, and how efficient or reliable the procedure is. she is an img.
it is known that in american med. schools, you are supposed to clear step 1 before you proceed to the clinical years. if a student gets a score way below expected, is there any procedure or protocol that the med. schools follow to ensure the validity of their student.
if there is anyone out there who has experienced a considerable increase in their score following the recheck with usmle,or if someone has any advice, please feel free to advice/help.
these are tough times for my sister, and any help/guidance will be appreciated.thanks.
