Failed with a 183/74! Should i bother with a recheck?

I'm very disappointed, i would have been happy with a 75 (as this Exam gives me nightmares!) and would have tried to just compensate with a great Step 2 score. But thanks to the board I will pick myself up and start studying again. Just wanted to know if anyone out there knows of someone who did a Step 1 score recheck and ended up with a different score? I know the chances are probably like 99.9% that my score will remain the same! I heard of some who had their Step 3 score checked and ended up passing, but don't know of a Step 1 person.

Hello Lushable,

I'm so sorry for you,I'm crying!I think this is not fair for you .I heard the borderline score like you 183, fail just with one question and I think it's not fair because difference between you and pearson with 185 is just one question and it's not good because it's just a score and you know better .I'm like you with nightmares of step 1 and I'm so tired.
About recheck your score I don't know and I didn't heard anything but I think, if you feel it maybe help you try it.and I can tell you don't be upset ,be strong .You are not alone. There are alot of people like you.
MAy I ask you did you take NBME on website? How was your score ?What about usmleworld or kaplan qbank or simulation exam?
I'll pray for your successful .

I have never heard about them chaging the score Imagen if they actually did, what would happen is that all the people that failed the test will ask for a recheck and also will put their credibility on the line that they made a mistake. So I do no think they will change the score.
I have never heard about it before.
So that step3 might be myth or something really big happen.
Good that you are preparing for the test again.
Keep it up

i felt your pain, i've been there before. i did my first attempt for step 1 last June with a score of 184/74. its really heartbreaking when you can see 1 or 2 correct answers could make you pass the exam. i contemplated for days and read through this forums regarding rechecks. with a waiting period of 3-4wks, 50$ fee and high probability of getting the same failing score, i decided not to. i took the exam again last month and got my score today, 207/85-passed. a not so great score when you compare it to those posting their 99's, but its a passing score! just study and take the exam again the soonest and pray to God for His guidance. Good luck!

Thanks for all the advice and kind words to all who responded, I am back to studying this week and plan to retake the exam in early Feb, would like to take it end of Dec, but the next 2 months are very busy for me. I will try the recheck even though i know there is a next to nothing chance, at least i know I tried.

I also doubt they would change the score, but if it were me, I would get it anyways....I'd rather have them recheck it for my own peace of mind, than wonder 2 months down the road, sitting alone in a library studying for it again, "what if...."

Very wise of you to continue studying while waiting for the recount. All the best with your next exam.

I'd rather retake the exam. It looks better with a higher score even it is the second attempt than passing the 1st time with score of 75. Since you got 75 you don't have a chance to retake it.
Sincerely, my friend.

Wow, I feel your pain....I am waiting for my scores and my stomach is in knots (don't know, could have bombed, maybe not) and you were CLOSE....just remember, seems to me this test is a real beast - crapshoot. Good you're getting going studying again, lots of people have a similar experience so.....just remember you're not alone and now you know better what to expect when you do it again!! Best of luck to you & crush it the 2nd time.

I totally feel your pain, I missed it by 6 in september, not as close as you but still heartbreaking. I am taking it again next week, just took another NBME and got a 490 so I feel confident. Studying sucks, especially when you thought you were done, but keep your head up and God will guide you through, trust me! Take care
