Just checked my scores on Oasis, got a 180/73!
This was my 2nd time taking it. First time was 152/60. Although I improved a lot, needless to say, it does not suffice. I'm really depressed and considering what to do next. |

Here was my prep schedule beginning back in September of 2006:
-Took the PASS program (4 weeks) in Sept, '06. -Then self study (from October '06 to March '07) with Kaplan videos and books, '06 First Aid, Goljan audio only, USMLE World, Kaplan Q-bank, and NBME's (don't remember results). -Took Step 1 in March '06 = 152/60. 2nd time around: -Took Kaplan Live review for 6 weeks -Reviewed Goljan audio along with Rapid Review Path (2nd edition). -Here were my stats before sitting for the Step 1 in early August '07 the 2nd time: USMLE World: 50% average (98% complete) (50 question blocks, timed, unused) NBME Form 1: 07-23-07 (290/160) NBME Form 2: 08-06-07 (370/184) 2007 USMLE CD (2nd time): Block I (76%), Block II (80%), Block III (68%) = Average = 75% I just reapplied for October 1st to December 31st examination block. Just going to focus on my weak points mainly, high yield review of my strong points, and NBME's and questions! |

thats more like it my friend....I applaud you million times for being very strong. Just trust in yourself and you can do it. Among all of us, you're gonna enjoy your MD degree the most because you know what kind of trouble you had to go through to get that degree.
APPLAUD ONE MORE TIME. make us proud. |

You didn't complete NBME's 3 and 4? The two scores you got on the others would suggest you were borderline and in danger of failing. What do you think went wrong?

I am sorry you failed, but why did you take the exam when your NBME scores indicated that you were unlikely to pass? Your NBME scores are the best predictor of your performance and, according to those scores, you were not ready. Thus, the result is hardly surprising. It appears that you are doing something right because your score improved considerably (about 1.5 standard deviations); however, I recommend that hold off on retaking the test until you are confident that you can pass. Your NBME scores will tell you when you are ready. |
