    scores in

    undergraduate GPA: 2.5 MCAT: 17
St. Matthews University GPA: 3.7 Step one: 244/99

This thread is for all of you out there that think that either you cant do it, or are lazy right now and dont feel like studying. Guys, all I have to say is that If i can do it, yall can too. Pick a study method, stick to it, dont listen to anyone, and keep truckin through material. I really dont want to say anything else, cause most of what I will tell you about my experience has already been emphisized on other posts, and probably better than I could describe anyways. One thing that I would like to say is that when you study, you have to study as if you are interested in the material and ask why, why, why. Secondly, when you do study in your basic sciences, find a study partner, make sure they are on your level and have the same goals as you do, this is invaluable!! To all you guys studying, good luck, keep strong, we all go through stages of asking ourselves why we got ourselves in this, just go back in your mind and try to find out why you wanted to be a doctor, why you not only want to help people, but want to make a difference in your community.

    USMLE Step I score

    Step I score --- 98/234
Took test on April 14th, 2007, and received score on May 11th, 2007
    Med school---- SGU

USMLEworld--- 40-50% when I started, 67-73% at the end (loved it)
Kaplan Qbank ---hated this stupid thing, quit after doing 87%, got 63% overall
Board Simulator Series---- loved this and got about 70% correct per section

NBME---- I took this more than a month before the test, got 440
Total study time was about 2.5 months

used First Aid, BRS Path/Phys, Kaplan Biochem and Anatomy, Clinical Micro Made Easy, First Aid for the rest!!!!! Did lots and lots of questions...best advice is don't use too many sources for books and do tons of questions!!!!
Oh, I studied on my own, did not take any courses but used the two kaplan books a friend of mine gave me...good luck to all of you taking step I.

    Congratulations SMU 09
Your message is very encouraging. I had a 3.2 undergrad GPA and a 22 MCAT score. After being rejected from so many US medical schools I have been doubting myself lately. This september is going to be my first semester at SMU and I was very happy to know one of my soon to be fellow classmates have obtained such great scores. You gave me hope. Please tell me what book did you use, what prep course did you take, what is the highest score and when did you start studying for the exam. I am a little paranoid, I wanted to start studying for it after my first semester. Is that too early?
    Anxiously awaiting your response.

I don"t know where you read those stadistics, because I know people that passed after many attempts and still got a residency because if you are an international doctor almost never you passed the first time,so keep studying and you will pass soon just don't give up,usually those 99% are of american students no foreign doctors that are not used to do this type of tests.
