USMLE STEP 1 STUDY SCHEDULE
Here is the study schedule that I was thinking of. Please let me know if you would like to make any modifications. My plan is to go through each system, covering all subjects from respective systems. We will be studying the Pathology, Physiology, and Pharmacology from respective systems, and incorporating whatever other subjects necessary for particular systems..such as Microbiology incorporation into GI etc..We will then be discussing NBME questions from all 4 forms for respective systems. The reason I would like to start next week, is because i have to go through all 4 forms, and separate out the questions into their respective systems so we can do this. I know everyone has their own sources, so please, feel free to use whatever you feel to prepare the systems. I personally will be using Goljan, Robbins Review of Pathology, First Aid, Step Up, and kaplan for some subjects in order to review. I ask that everyone prepare, and while preparing, write down 5-10 key high yield questions to bring to the forum for discussion. Anything that you run across that seems important. Many of the material we all come up with will be redundant, which is not a bad thing. It will solidify our knowledge. We can also see the same concept from different aspects which will allow us to make our knowledge more versatile. My suggestion would be to prepare, read, and then do questions on your own from whatever source before coming to the discussion. I don't mind passive participants, however, please do not come to the group without reading the material, and expect to be tutored. Last time, a discussion was done, and we had a few that simply came with no preparation, and while those who worked hard to prepare questions for the group, would discuss those questions, these people would ask basic questions and ask and ask and ask, without any contribution what so ever. I am going to try to filter these people out early for those of us, who are dedicated to learning, as WELL as helping one another out. It will be a pretty rigorous schedule, but i think it will be fruitful for all. Passive participants are welcome, but please, only for observation. If you haven't prepared any questions for the discussion, please do not come and ask any questions as well. This is just to be fair to those who have prepared questions. The discussion will take place at 7:30 EST according to the following schedule, and I would ask that all from whom this time is inconvenient to contact me, so we could think of something that suites us all. Since the writers of the USMLE and the writers of the NBME are one in the same, I think it is essential for us to go over all the concepts that THEY think are important. There are 800 NBME questions in 4 forms. With each question having up to 4 concepts, I think we can review between 2000-3000 high yield concepts the boards feels is important to ask in self assesment. By the end of this, I am hoping we will have a great review of all systems, and subjects pertaining to those systems, as well as an in depth understanding of all NBME questions.
