How to get to Statia from US? What is the transportation cost to island? Best way to get there?

check the major airlines to see how to get from your place in the US (assuming you live there) to St. Martin. you'll likely have a layover in Charlotte, NC. I personally used US Airways. from St. Martin, you'll take a ~20 min Winair flight to Statia

You MUST connect in St. Marteen (SXM) - then take a WinAir flight to Statia (EUX). WinAir is the ONLY airline that goes in and out of Statia currently.

The question is where are you starting from? If you are on the East Coast, look for fare deals from Jet Blue especially out of NY to St. Maarten (SXM).

If you are on the West Coast, you usually first have to get to the East Coast. Due to the time differences, it can be tough to find a West-East flight that will arrive in time to catch another flight to SXM.

With the merger of Continental and United, that group may have a few more options soon. Otherwise, other US carriers tend to fly down from DC, Charlotte, NY, Philly and sometimes even Chicago.

No matter how you get to SXM, you will need to book a flight to Statia (EUX). WinAir (sometimes referred to as WhimAir) is still your best bet and they seem to have increased their reliability over the years. Still, DO NOT book a WinAir flight close to your US arrival flight. Spend a few hours on the beach at the Sonesta Maho in SXM and take a later WA flight to EUX. And, DO NOT book a WA flight back to SXM that arrives close to your US departure. If there is a delay with WA, you will certainly be screwed and they will not compensate you. Leave Statia early, hit the beach in SXM, and comfortably go back to the airport for your US departure.

Go online to expedia.com or kayak.com, etc...and check out airlines and costs for your location to SXM destination (St.Maarten).
The cost depends on where you are coming from in the US and dates of travel. Those travel websites will show you if there are direct flights from your location or where you will have to connect through in the US to get to SXM...and the cost for your planning.

Then you will have a Winair flight (15 minutes) from SXM to EUX (St.Eustatius) which is about 170.00 round trip, about 80.00 one way.

It is no more expensive to get to Statia from the U.S. than any other island, hence any other caribbean medical school. Compared to most it is cheaper. Good Luck.
