What exactly is a "bluebook" rotation?

I have done a lot of research on what a greenbook rotation, and I finally have that all figured out. However, I am still not exactly sure what a bluebook rotation means. After looking around on google and such, I still can't find a solid answer so I am hoping that someone can help me out with this and maybe show me a website to explain it.
My initial thought that was that every rotation that is NOT greenbook is automatically considered bluebook?
However, I have also heard that there is also a difference between bluebook rotations, externships, and observerships. I was told that bluebook rotations are those that only have D.O. residency programs.
So my question is, if the rotation I have does not have any type of residency program affiliated with it (D.O or M.D.), is it still considered bluebook? or is it something else like an observership?

Correct. "Green" = ACGME. "Blue" = DO equivalent. All others at your discretion. "Green" and "Blue" simply refer to the color of the booklet they were once printed in (or still are, not sure). "Green" is great, "others" are unreliable and depend on the state you plan to get a license in, "Blue" is somewhere in between (i.e. carries more weight than an "other" rotation, but might not mean squat if your state of interest requires all-ACGME cores and/or electives. Observership vs. rotation is difficult to categorize generally since again that falls under the rules of each state. However, an observership is never equivalent to a rotation. Some places will be very certain to document that. An observership is mainly for FMG post-grads and is very limited in nature, so you should avoid those at this point in your career. Don't be fooled by the "umbrella" nonsense, btw, no such thing. Good luck!

P.S. "Green", "Blue", "other" - each state treats them slightly differently, so you should be researching (www.fsmb.org) more-so than this site. If you can wait and get all true "green" rotations then that is great. Otherwise, just remember that (regrettably) you and I are 'just' IMG/FMGs and you have to accept that and 'play the game' as the cards are dealt. Also, some schools with many more years and money under their belts are buying up the good rotation spots like crazy so there is little to expect (with all due respect) from the smaller IMG/FMG schools. In conclusion, which should you pick. Well, just focus on graduating first, then think of how you will explain why it took you 3+ years to complete the clinical sciences (if you decide to wait) to the PD, and then any other black marks on your record. Nobody is perfect, but you have to keep in mind that you are where you are for a reason and you have to pick and choose based on your needs. Don't expect to be treated the same as an AMG and do the best you can based on your preferences. I mean no disrespect, but just stating the facts. PM me if I can be of any help...
