UMHS reports that they got the shelf. I LOVE IT. It is a good indicator of how well you will do on the USMLE. Actually stats say, it is the best indicator. So study hard.

UMHS
Step 1 [no rest for the wicked]
Yes, the NBME Shelf Exams that will be given at UMHS are web based.
510 points Couple of questions- I am new to some of the terminology. I see "shelf exams" on many post- what are these exactly? It seems some schools have them and some don't. Does anyone know what the ability of UMHS grads to be able to get licensed in Texas? On the Texas site, they are not listed as one of the "substantial equivalent" schools, but it does say that the school can submit license forms Z1 - Z7 for consideration. But then it does go on to say "recently established" schools are not allowed. With UMHS being only 2 1/2 years old, does this mean that license in Texas would not be possible? Has UMHS applied for their listing? I noticed that SABA and AUC are also not on their listing either. It also says that being approved by ABMS or BOS would allow you to be licensed if you were an IMG - what does this mean? It also talks about IMG's using FCVS are able to be considered. What does this mean? It doesn't sound like Texas allows any foreign schools to do rotations in the state, is this true, or can you arrange some of the elective rotations there- that would be about the only way to help increase chances of a match there. Lots of questions- but it sure helps you learn the things which are important and which could help or hinder your future. Thanks for any info!
