    How Many Students drop?

Just curious how many students drop out of basic sciences, say if 100 started how many finish? I know that's a generalization and a hard question, I've just heard a lot of people drop out of carib schools in general and wondered if people at UMHS had a drop out rate of notice, I doubt it, but I just thought I'd ask.

    Thanks

from what i have read in previous post, it seems that some people go to a caribbean medical school with the idea that, since it is easier to get accepted, it will be an easier education. so they believe that they will be able to continue partying like they did as an undergrad. they don't come with the mindset that this is medical school...we take the same boards and use, basically, the same books.

it will be balls to the wall!!

If you go to a school wondering whats the drop out rate, you destined to not do as well as you can. People fail, people drop out its going to happen. Your only job is to make sure you are not one of those people. I wouldnt care if the failure rate is 95% as long as im in the 5% that passed. Go down there study your *** off, pass your exam and ultimately your boards and become a doctor. People spend way to much time worrying about other students performance.

Well stated...!! This my friends is excellent advice. Who cares what everyone else is doing. As long as you're passing is all that matters. Don't get your skirt ruffled if you don't make an A. Again, GPA don't mean anything from this point on. What matters is that you passed the basic medical sciences and that you scored well on Step 1. THATS ALL THAT MATTERS (and power clinical LOR's). I don't care what any naive friend my tell you. Medschool GPA means ZILCH. Period...!!! So don't worry about who is failing or passing, just be concerned that you are passing and keep moving. This is like mental olympics, it's an endurance test. They love to ware you down and mentally exhaust you. Don't fall victim this manipulation.

This is bogus The recent med 1 class has less than 100 students, according to this post, it would suggest that everyone would fail out. No so true.....

    Peace

Hi, I have to agree with most of the responses here, you have to study very hard when you start medical school. You also have to keep in mind that not all schools have high attrition rates and I believe that if a school has a high attrition rate one needs to think twice about attneding that school because high attrition rate is in some ways reflection of the school and its not all the student faults. Study hard and do your research before applying or attending your school of choice.

    Best of luck

I will always blame the rate of attrition on the studentsl and not the school. No matter how bad your prof. is Robbins Path, Netters anatomy, Costanzo's phys book dosent change if your taking the classes at SMU, UMHS, SGU, Harvard or Stanford. There is a finite amount of knowledge in say Gastro Path to know so if you know your stuff you know it. The problem comes when people rely way to heavily on the class notes and neglect text books and review books and then blame the prof and or the school.

I had a really good friend fail our first biochem exam in school by just using the notes, he did the whole the prof sucked, the test was unfair blah, blah crap. Come monday he buried himself into Lippincotts biochem made sure he knew backwards and forwards every concept in lippincott for the up coming exam. Destroyed the next two exams with high 90's and scored extremely well on the shelf, without pretty much ever looking at the profs. notes again for the semester. Doing well is all on the student, not on the prof or school. Is it harder to do well with a crappier teacher sure ill give you that. But ultimately doing well is a matter of hard work and dedication.
