Thread: Lecture notes

For current students...I have two questions.

1. I was wondering if copies of lectures are handed out or if lectures are only accessible online? If not, do you have the option to print the notes out for those who prefer the more conventional method of studying with a paper copy (such as myself) as oppose to using a computer to take notes?

2. Does UMHS offer mediasite (where you can access live lectures online)? I know Ross and a few others use this in order to view a specific lecture again.

Lecture notes are accessible before, while and after classes at the M drive. M drive is where the professors put their notes and powerpoint. You can only access to it in school, however, you can copy it to your laptop's hard drive for you to access at your apartment. Yes you can print them too.

UMHS doesn't have mediasite yet. They might start having it this semester.

Thanks joy! One more question though. As far as printing, are you allocated a specific amount of money each week for printing at the library? How does that work? Thanks again.

The current print quota is 800 pages for the semester. However, in contrast to the previous post, I have not heard anything about starting mediasite this semester.

oh about the mediasite, it might just for us second sem student, our anatomy II professor mentioning about the anatomy lectures to be put in Elsevier its like online thing, where you can access it wherever and whenever. sorry about that..

Dr. Gantz said he was planning on doing the Elsevier(sp?) thing online for MED1 anatomy, but now he's gone, so who knows what Dr. Feras is going to do. I like Dr. Feras' notes more though. Idk about everyone else, but I'm cool just adding notest onto the powerpoint. With how many slides we have, the paper copies are going to start stacking up pretty soon

Mediasites have positive and negative aspects. The obvious positive is that a student can go back and look at a lecture to see what the professor had to say. It can be used to fill in blanks in notes the student took during class.

One of the negatives is that students may simply use it as a replacemnt for written notes and will repeatedly listen to lectures. This is extremely time consuming and medical students usually don't have the luxury of time to re-listen to lectures.

Worse than that, mediasites present a major temptatin to skip lectures altogether and simply stay at home and listen to the lecture from the confort of the bedroom. Not only does this put the student in violation of class attendence regulations but, for many students, it is a less efficient method of learning than listening to the live lecture.

UMHS is experimenting with voiceovers on PowerPoint presentations that will be avaialbe to students. We will start with a few professors and then evaluate if the pros outweigh the cons. Based on the data, we will either decide to expand the program, discontinue it or use it selectively.

hi Cougar...can you help me with a few questions? is the program good there? the Marriot, can students live there? and about how much per month.....admin. counselor didn't seem to have many answers.
