    Tropical Storm IKE

    This is directly from Weather.com

    Tropical Storm Ike

"Elsewhere in the Atlantic Basin, Tropical Storm Ike, the ninth tropical storm of the season, continues its westward trek. It is located halfway between the Lesser Antilles and Africa. Top winds are near 50 mph.
Tropical Storm Ike will initially head west-northwest then west over the course of this week. It is forecast to become a hurricane later this week."

The projected path has it going straight west running through the islands ..

If you check the computer models, you'll see that all but one have it travelling well above St. Kitts. The one has it slightly above St. Kitts. Based on the five day forecasts, it may disrupt travel plans for people flying through Miami and Puerto Rico but it poses minimal risk for St. Kitts. Hopefully, the students flying to UMHS and our sister school, IUON, will already be on island and ready for class on Monday.

We are in the peak of the hurricane season and there are several more waves between Africa and the Lesser Antilles. Each is predicted to turn into something more exciting, but so far, the models all have them turning north before they reach the Lesser Antilles. While that is not good for the Greater Antilles, it is good for St. Kitts.

Punjabiballar, you always have to remember that the term "islands" encompasses everything from Bermuda in the north to the ABC Islands off the coast of South America. When you live down here, you realize that that is a lot of space and that the hurricanes may go through one set of islands without effecting the others. Sometimes, that's a very GOOD thing!

I will be traveling through Miami tomorrow hopefully this will not affect me. I will start praying today. I have called the airlines and everything is still on schedule. So wish me luck as I avoid yet another eye of the storm.

If you are flying directly from Miami to St. Kitts on Wednesday, you should be OK. The storm will be well south of Miami and the flight should be able to go around it.

    Good Luck!
