I am going to be part of the May class. I am looking forward to this education. I still need to find housing down there, but it is hard because the database is almost full of "not available" apartments.

Housing questions for May '08
I just got into the May '08 session...was wondering if anyone could help with the housing situation. What's the closest area to campus? Is it necessary to get a used vehicle or is public transportation pretty good if the housing is a bit further away from campus? I'm planning to get to St.Kitts a little b4 registration/orientation. Is one day enough to look around for housing or should I have something ready b4 I get there or should I plan on staying in a hotel for the first few days b4 I'll find housing? Any help will be much appreciated

Camps, Mattingley, West Farm and Boyds are the closest areas (walking distance) to campus. If you live in any other area you'll have to either get a vehicle or use the public transportation which is pretty reliable. Getting housing in one day might be possible, but remember that there are other schools on the island who also have students starting in May.

Wise Owl Gal,
You have gotten some good advice here. Housing is at a premium and arriving without having a place to stay will mean that you are rushed to find something quickly. Hotels are also expensive so you can run up a high bill while you are looking around. Please take the advice of Skull and fruit2o. You will have a much more pleasant experience if you do. Use the Housing Database and communicate by email with the Housing Office. Instead of looking frantically for an apartment when you arrive on island, you will be able to get a phone set up, open your bank account and get to see a little of the island with the other students who are arriving. (Once classes start, your opportunities to sightsee will be more limited!) As for the number of students arriving for May 08, I think you can expect about 30 classmates. We have been getting a lot of interest lately so that number may rise, but it is a good estimate for now. To Skull and fruit2o, Thanks for the good information. You are spot on! |
