Not necessarily, if Oldanllon has not researched the issue properly he could be taken in by fast talking lower tier schools. Some people do not even know the right questions to ask.

Steph, I did not think you would fall into this trap

looking at this poster's profile, it says that he/she is 2 years old, pr-med!

Not only that, in one of his/her old posts, he/she claims to have been accepted to AUA SGU.

Now, you know that no school official would make such a redicolous and childish claim (even SGU official themselves would not say something like this).

I think users like this should be banned............

Hi all. Sorry if my question was corny Indeed cost and living condition (island being the reason why ROSS was ruled out by her) are important factors for us. I appreciate all the replies.

Not a problem, people think that the post must be joke because there is just no comparison between SGU and UMHS.

I was new on here once and asked some "corny" questions.

Where UMHS beats SGU:
1) Class sizes are much smaller
2) Much cheaper = less financial risk if you flunk out

Where SGU beats UMHS:
1) US clinicals
2) Grads can get licensed in all 50 states (including CA)
3) SGU has a reputation in the US, where UMHS will have to earn a reputation

Risk of Attending UMHS
1) New School => no rep. in US
2) No US Clinicals yet
3) Not approved by any state licensing board
4)**EDIT** see below
5) Financial Aid options limited to a few lenders

There is always a risk with going to the Caribbean to medical school. Just because your daughter got accepted somewhere does not guarantee that she will pass her courses and get the necessary scores to land a decent residency.

I also agree with the previous poster that your daughter should be on here with you researching this information.

**EDIT** UMHS' sister campus, IUON, has both an associates and bachelors program in nursing. I had originally put that being on the same campus as an associates degree nursing program was a risk, I now retract that statement.

Remember, you get what you pay for. SGU has all greenbook clinicals and more spots than they can currently fill. UMHS doesn't have any clinical affiliations yet.

Anyone who knows SGU's campus will tell you that UMHS's campus doesn't come close to comparing. SGU could rival many campus in the US.

Compare these:

This is most certainly just someone's opinion! Although SGU has the exclusive contract with NY (after all the school does have the money since tuition is pretty expensive), the other "big three" are viable choices esp for those that don't want to spend as much. I will admit that SGU is porbably the MOST recognized, as it is the oldest.

that's not true.
they made an agreement with HHC (the new york city health and hospitals corporation) which owns many of the major hospitals and facilities in NYC.
st. george's university is the only foreign school to have spots at HHC facilities for the next 10 years.
there are still plenty of facilities available to many other foreign medical schools.

nonetheless.
to the original poster..
if your child got into both schools..
unless SGU's tuition is impossible..
send her there.

I certainly can't say it never happened, but if so, rarely. the only people I see going there from sgu are people who failed out. In fact I NEVER knew anyone while I was there to transfer anyplace unless it was a US school. I know a few have, but again, its not common. So of this rare occasion, Id suspect an infinitesimally small number would be going to UMHS (Ross auc and saba would be more like it and again...small numbers).

I recommend your daughter come to this forum and ask questions directly. It is be her life, her decisions and her responsibility to get facts. Some parents occasionally post here but really, your daughter needs to learn to do this legwork on her own. In fact self-responsibility is the whole ethic of being a doc.

I will also say that i am not commenting on UMHS as a school in any way shape or form. I know nothing about it whatsoever. Simply that I am HIGHLY skeptical of this claim and would want hard data- numbers and over what time period and written explicit statement that these are folks who transfered rathered that dropped out of sgu. those are my thoughts.
VERY well said.
