In several other posts, I have explained that UMHS is in the process of obtaining clinical sites but, at the moment, has not signed the final agreements with them. While this might happen before May, I would not want to tell you that it will. You should not plan on transferring into the Clinical Sciences at UMHS this May. September '08 would be a more reasonable estimate.

Transfers are always handled on a case-bycase basis so I cannot guarentee that UMHS would accept all credits. It is conceivable that a student wishing to transfer into 5th or 6th semester might be asked to repeat a semester because they had a weak performance in the Basic Sciences or were having difficulty passing Part I of the USMLE. Obviously, this would be explained to the applicant so that they could make an educated decision regarding whether or not to transfer.

The only way to know for sure is to apply and let us evaluate your transcripts. Then we can give you a firm answer.

This may sound redundant.. but if I want to transfer after I have already passed Step 1, would that in any way increase my chances of being accepted?

It certainly would help your chances, but since ALL transfers are handled on a case by case basis, I cannot promise anything with only this limited information. You would have to apply and let us evaluate all your information. It is possible that we still would ask you to take the 5th semester over again. Make the application, let us look at your documents and then we can give you a personalized answer that we will stand behind.

So will there be any clinical sites in NJ?

would be very difficult since NJ no longer allows foreign med students to do rotations (cores at least) in NJ- the ones that do were granfathered in...
