Do you think applying in March, for May, will be really late? |

Just a note to the school administrator: the school's official website has not yet updated the start date, and this may be a source of confusion for potential applicants.

Jonari,
In addition to applying, you also have to arrange for transcripts to be sent to UMHS and to organize your finances while preparing to leave the United States for a foreign country. If you do not have a passport, you will have to apply and receive it prior to leaving the United States. All of this is time consuming. UMHS can process your application quickly once we have your transcripts, interview and application. The financial aid and passport (especially the passport) may take considerably longer. I would start the process as early as you possibly can. If you are certain that you are going to a medical school outside of the United States, apply for the passport now unless you already have one. When you get your acceptance letters and make your final choice, you won't have to worry about that one item...and it can take a long time to get. With the passport in hand and the application submitted, the only other item that may require some time is your financial situation. You need to allow time for financial aid applications to be processed and approved. Can the application and financial aid be processed if you apply in March? Yes, but you may find yourself rushed at the end. That is no way to start something as rigorous as medical school. Give yourself as much advance time as possible! You don't want to be scurrying around getting books, packing and making travel arrangemnts at the last minute. Last edited by UMHS; 11-22-2007 at 01:42 PM. |

Conway,
Thanks for noticing that. We also have not updated the header on ValueMD which still says that we are starting in January. I notified the New York office earlier this morning and asked them to change it so that it doesn't cause any more confusion. I trust that they will make those changes as soon as they return from the holidays. Again, thanks for bringing that to our attention! |

Weatherman,
At it again. Man, do you hold a grudge for thirty years? Get a life. You started out slamming UMHS before it even opened its doors and now you are going after the nursing school. You have to understand that issuing an F-1 visa is a state department function. Are you purposing Caribbean schools issue legal documents now for international students. I doubt that your motives are innocent. You must be a master at misinformation and not weather forecasting!

To me, it sounds like the guy didn't ask the right questions before coming to the school. I don't think you can discredit the whole institution because a non-us citizen was denied entry into the country. The IUON program grants you an associates degree in nursing (the equivalent of graduating from a community college with a nursing program), and seems to be catered to mainly US students anyway. As of right now, according to the information at hand, UMHS has neither WHO or IMED listings (though it is pending), affiliations with any teaching hospital in the US, US federal aid, or the ability for its graduates to be licensed in all 50 states. All this will take time and patience... and I see nothing wrong, for now, in giving the staff at UMHS the benefit of the doubt that they will get all this accomplished. |

Slaol_121,
Your last paragraph is a good summary of the reasons why we decided to postpone the opening of UMHS. There is a good chance that many of these steps will be completed prior to the end of the year, but the University did not want to be coming down to its opening with major areas left unresolved. Since we are confident that all of these items can be achieved by May 2008, we decided to delay the opening until that time. |
