    UHSA a scam? PLEASE COMMENT

So I sent in my application to UHSA, and now I'm having doubts as to whether or not I really want to go there (this is based on what I've read here).

I've browsed this entire board, and come across both negative and positive things about the school.

So in a nutshell, can someone (preferably a UHSA student) tell me if it's worth the trouble and effort to get my MD from this school?

    Thanks

I too post here to give unbiased advice, relying on my own experience, which worked out for me. I started residency this July. But I am not a poster child for foreign medical education regardless of the school's location.

I also avoid talking about my own experiences or the school I attended. I also don't think school bashing is a very productive way of pointing out the challenges one faces when he/she attends medical schools outside of North America. There are too many posts here that are either way too positive or way too negative. The truth is always found somewhere in the middle.

My posts have the same theme in common: "know what you are getting into by doing your diligence while doing an honest risk assessment in light of your own unique abilities and circumstances". You are the only one who could truly do that. Engage in some critical thinking as you need this basic skill if you have any hope of some day becoming a successful physician.

This forum and others similar to it may be used to get some initial perspective about what this process entails. But relying on an anonymous chat board as a sole means of doing your due diligence is extremely misguided.

Lastly be honest with your posts and don't mislead others by being too negative too positive. If the process has worked for you, be honest by pointing out that you experience may or may not be duplicated by others. There are such too many variables in this process.

If you had a bad experience, feel free to talk about that too but don't present it in such a way that everyone who embarks on this journey will end up a failure. This, too, is not true. It all depends on the individuals and how well they met challenges ( some within their control and some outside of their control).

That quoted stat of 14k unmatched applicants is both real and easily verifiable, not sure why you would be casting shade at that -- it's simple math. Obviously YOU don't have to be one of them, and I sincerely hope that you are not, but there are still going to be a whole lot of applicants finding themselves on both sides of the match day experience.

Finally, while there are certainly "armchair medical students" on VMD (and elsewhere), some of us are residents (and attendings, although I am not at that stage yet) who are trying to provide a balanced view of the international medical education experience. That is a decided mixed bag, a fact with which I'm sure you are quite familiar.

Best wishes on Monday (and Friday!) -- please do let us know where you end up.

You can focus on whatever you want. Doesn't matter to me. I worked hard, passed my exams, and am on my way to residency. Also, I only take advice from people who matched and moved on. I don't know you and you have nothing productive to offer to me. Plus, I'm too busy to post on online forums.

(Edit: Answered a post that was, apparently, not directed to me. Smooth.)
