    Mexican Program

    Hello,

Well.... Im having a tuff time deciding on wether or not i should attend the mexican program over the american program. I have my dual citizenship and would not mind working as a doctor im the beutifull mexico. My spanish is not the best. If i decide to go to the mexican program, will i have the oppurtunity to come back to the U.S. via EFMG?? And how well will it prep someone for USMLE ??

    Thanks

of course you will be able to come back, sincerely maybe you will have better choices if you come and do some subspecialty or so, coz this is a long and tough path which you have to prepare so well...best of luck!

I know people who chose the "programa latino" at UAG and passed their boards...the truth is that there is not much of a difference between international group and grupo latino...the only big difference is that you don't have the usmle review if you choose grupo latino but other than that classes are the same(except the language)..another differece would be that some classes at grupo latino have lab sessions as part of their curriculum (biochem, physiology, micro, pathology, anatomy, histology) and international group at the time only had anatomy and histology lab sesions...maybe things have changed by now.
If you study hard you should be able to pass the boards, that's up to you.
    This is only my opinion.
    Best of luck!!

I dont know AmeriMex, if I had a choice in the matter, I would definitely go to the Mexican program. Think about it: It will take you 1 year longer to get ECFMG status, instead of 5th pathway. But you will be paying N$20000 in tuition, which is an incredible deal. At the same time, you will have plenty of opportunities to interact with students in the American program, and I am sure the Kaplan people won't mind taking money from you and help you prep for the USMLE's. The financial benefits would definitely outweigh all other considerations for me. Maybe I should look for a business marriage to a Mexican girl to get Mexican citizenship status? hehe

Actually it will be a total of 6 years. 4 of medical school, 1 of internship and 1 of Servicio social. YOu need your titulo to be ECFMG certified. Yes it would be a lot cheaper that is for sure. You have better odds at passing Step 2 than Step 1 when you get done with the 4 years. I suggest that when you get to Internado you really study for Step 2 using Kaplan's note books. Step 2 because you will be able to apply what you are seen. Step 1 during your social service. you will have plenty of time for it. Stick to a schedule. Good luck.
