Where to live
I was just wondering if someone could give me a few tips on finding a place to live in Guad. I have been accepted for the January entering class and am currently looking for a place to live. Where do most American students live their first year? Is any one else out there in my shoes?

Where to live
The vast majority of students live in Providencia but the prices there are much higher. You can find a place a mile outside of providencia for 30-50% cheaper. If you are taking a car down to Mexico may determine where you should live. For the first 2 years, you can get by without a car but once you go to the hospital you may have to get one unless you get a ride from someone else but I wouldn't worry about that right now. My best advice to you is to fly down a month before(if you want to get the best options) or a week before school starts because it takes time to rent a place in Guadalajara. All the students want to stay next to the school. Finding a place wih an upper semester student is your best bet. The scholl have a list of places for rent. Ask the San Antonio office to fax you a copy of available places to rent. If you have any other questions feel free to post.

the Mexicans were real bastards in Tampico in early 80s!
the gubernacion made us wait six hours for paperwork and then come back umpeen times. needed a tourist visa. their message-dont do anything by the book or we'll screw you! I registered MY car legally, my Dad insisted on this-and when the proroga was late even though I brought it in voluntarily they confiscated it and I needed a lawyer. SUCKS! Maybe with PRI out it isnt as bad but who knows?
2. we got treated s**ty on rotations like in old Kirwood in Detroit 3. watch out in residency! like in IM a US grad gets their board letter no matter how bad they are while they can shaft an IMG any time for any reaston. 4. licensing is a real man's best friend! 5. choose an IM freindly program-St Barnabas Livingston is in a nice area but it is NOT IM freindly!! |
