    1) Keep a record of EVERYTHING. Many documents tend to get lost and there's no unified computer system to track anything you turn in to the school.
    2) Do not argue because it'll just cause you hypertension, which will lead to a headache. If they say they need a copy of your FM3 (student visa) then give them a copy of your FM3, even though they have a validated document from Mexican immigration stating your residency here in Mexico is valid.
    3) Do not hassle yourself with getting your FM3 in the USofA. The one you get is temporary and you're still going to have to go through the entire same process here at UAG. I highly recommend flying in on an FMM (tourist visa) and during your orientation week the school will assist you step by step to obtain your FM3.
    4) Make sure to put your game face on during your interview. Before, everyone believed all you needed is a pulse and a checkbook to be enrolled and granted admission, but... last semester a friend of mine who was accepted to ROSS was denied admission after her interview. Note: you will receive a refund of the inscription fee ($1,500.00) if you're denied admission after your interview.
    5) Dress code for class (yes, dress code!) is white scrubs. They tend to be over priced here in Guadalajara, so if I were you stock up on some white scrubs. You'll need them throughout your stay here. White polo’s or anything with a collar as long as it's white is acceptable. Pants must be white. Oh, shoes, too! You're gonna be whited-out!
    6) Starting first semester you'll be doing PMC (Program of Medicine in the Community) which requires you to have your own diagnostic kit. Medical equipment here are, also, slightly more expensive than the US, I recommend buying your goodies before you come out. (Diagnostic kit to include: Stethoscope, Sphygmometer, Halogen diagnostic set, mercury thermometer, measuring tape, tuning fork).
    7) Living arrangements could be a hassle for those who wait till the last minute. If you interview and were accepted, I recommend you take a trip to Guadalajara and look for locations to live in and rent in advance. You will not regret this.
    8) There's a city just outside of Guadalajara known to students as The Furniture Heaven. Its actual name is Tonala. You can find brand new furniture there for half the price of any store in Providencia, the fancy colonia in Guadajalara where our school is located at.
    9) Do not hassle yourself in buying books off Amazon just cause they're cheaper. Luckily for us, there are no copyright laws here when it comes to making a copy of an entire book, loading it up as a pdf and selling it to students for 1/10th the price here in Mexico. Also, the first weekend after your orientation week, there's a welcome picnic held where you can meet current students and buy their books from previous semesters. The books that are sold are usually the ones recommended by the course teachers. You can also find cars, furniture, and sometimes pets for sale at this picnic.
    10) Currency exchange tends to be a big hassle here except for those with Bank of America accounts. BofA is affiliated with two Mexican banks here, Scotia Bank and Santander Bank. You can use their ATM's as if they were BofA's ATM's. Meaning there is no withdrawal fee and the exchange rate will be determined by BofA at the end of the market close rate; the exchange rate is usually better than when you go to a currency exchange place to exchange your money. And, when you withdraw it's in Pesos not Dollars. Get a Bank of America account; it'll be worth it!
DO NOT PAY ATTENTION TO #3, IT IS WRONG!!
Although the list is well put-together and generally correct, be sure to get your visa started in the USA. Early in 2013, the Mexican government changed the visa process. You can no longer enter on an FMM and get the paperwork for an FM3. You MUST begin your FM3 at a Mexican consulate on US soil, get a credential sealed into your passport, and continue the process in Mexico.

Just thought I'd save y'all a lot of time, money, and headaches.

Anyone starting on their "opportunity" in GDL, reconsider. The only guarantee is debt accumulation. It's not to late to back out. Latest & greatest....Spring 2014/01 New Students Thread-3357_001.jpg

Hi everyone, I'm new at this valuemd thing so bear with me. Just wondering if anyone has any information about the switch from UAG's 5 year medical program to the now 4 year program, seems too good to be true. From what I've read, you can do the first two years in Mexico and do your last two years in the US. Is this correct? I went to the website but couldn't get much info so anything is appreciated, thanks!
