Thread: What is your fave US store here? Mexican?

Okay, so I'm trying to make a quick list of stores here for the student manual. Can you post the US stores you use most, as well as mexican stores that you wouldn't find back home?

the list so far is
Costco
Sam's Club
Office Depot
Walmart
Best Buy ($$$$)
Starbucks (at least 3 within walking distance to ICB)
Carl's Jr
Cinnabon (not as good)
Sears

And for mexican stores, Aurrera.

I've been here 5 years and I do the majority of my grocery shopping at Sorriana. I buy all fruit and veggies from the local tiangis (street markets). If you want American products, the stores listed above are great - but come at a price. If you are watching the pennies - Mexican stores and products (foods) are just fine.

from the 2 weeks i spent in Guadalajara I spent a good hour every day in a coffee shop called BLACK COFFEE. They have free WIFI, good strong coffee and are opening up new locations all over the place!!! There is one pretty close to ICB off of Miguel Acuna

i love that place! awesome coffee and cheaper than Starbucks. they have another one at Andares mall.

superama ( cheaper for me than soriana at least for what i buy and i luvvv their bread )
pier 1 imports ( prices seem the same as back home )
for the girls sally's they have a great supply of everything for your beauty needs similar to the states

Unless students are getting support from a store, they should not be in a hand book.
Student discounts
Students can use the wifi without purchasing anything.


Maybe a list of stores and companies to avoid .

Yes I was thinking the same thing. My main idea was to have stores so students feel a little more comfortable down here knowing they have something "familiar" even if it costs way more than it should. And your idea of things to avoid generally is excellent. I'll start that up, with estrella blanca up first. I think it'll be wise to get at least two or three separate reports before we put it up on the list.
