    Dual citizenship

I have both Mexican and American citizenship. I am planning on attending UAG in the near future mostly because my grades here in the US and I'd be closer to home (Pto. Vallarta). I would like to go through the international program and come back to the US, but still I'm not sure if I'd like to stay and practice in Mexico. What do you guys think? How are the national programs side of things? I know doctors don't make as much money down there but its definitely a nicer lifestyle if going into private practice there. Does anyone else have dual citizenship, does it make it easier to process all the papers etc.?

if you are going to be using federal money to study here and planning to stay here to practice; seems like premeditated suicide. Most doctors here never get a specialty and usually sell tacos in the corner and/or become taxi drivers. Coming here is usually done after retirement and a solid practice in the US where you would have accumulated enough wealth to come here and practice for fun, not for money. Good luck

My number one plan would be to return to the US and practice. I did work in an emergency department in Mexico for a bit, but didn't have a real chance and getting insight into doctors salaries and lifestyle there. I just got done replacing some grades from a prior semester and now since I'm only keeping a couple classes from that semester my gpa look really low for that semester since the replaced grades dont count for that semester anymore. so i hope it doesn't affect me too much. my overall gpa remained okay its just that one semester i'm worried about, so if my luck runs out and i don't get in to the international program maybe i'll have a shot at the national program and stick it out. by the way, is there any websites that will help add up your science gpa

You can go the national program as a Mexican national without US backed loans. In Mexico you would enter the national program right out of high school.

Then you have the international program that is open to the USA as Americans (not Mexicans) having completed a US based collegiate program (typically). Having papers from the US you can apply for loans in the US.

I am a dual national, as far as the school is concerned I am an American have a US passport and FM-3 a from Mexico. Mexico considers that I am an American when at school.

Where you want to practice, how much you are in debit and what kind of income you are looking at will make the ultimate decision.

A GP in Mexico does not make very much, they are respected members of the community. A surgeon with a specialty in Mexico will have a higher income.

No matter what, in the US you will have a higher income, have high insurance bills and pay higher taxes and be far better off in the end.

If a Mexican national in the country, regardless of what educational program you're, you MUST do the social service year.

If I understand correctly, if you attend as an American (FM3, etc) even though a dual national, you can do the fifth pathway (which NYMC says will continue to exist, and which Dr. Village-o-wolves suposedly told the 8th-semester graduating class will not exist for us next semester [quoted 2 weeks ago]), if you pull the Mexican national card and want to do the 6 years and then practice in Mexico, you will have to do the socialist service.
