I'd Like To Know, Too

I'm going into my fifth semester at UAG and am also looking for information about doing electives in The States. Surprisingly, there is very little information available about the Co-Op program at UAG, which is the program that allows for rotations in The States. I really really want to do my fourth year in the United States so I thought it would be a good idea to be aggressive and learn as much about this option as I can, as soon as I can.

Is there anyone out there that is in the Co-Op program and can explain the process of setting up rotations in The States? What was your experience like? Who is the contact person at UAG to set this up? What hospitals can you go to for rotations? How much communication is required with UAG once you're in The States and doing rotations? How are you graded? Do you have to come back to Guadalajara to take exams?

Somebody out there must know something!

I was under the impression that with the removal of the 5th pathway, UAG med students can no longer do rotations in the states.

none of the above has been changed due to the FPP abolishment. You can still do 4th and 5th and maybe 6th in the US for us californians

The particular question about not being able to do clinical rotations I did, wake up dreamer!
This is what I know about the subject matter.
1. Only the top 10% of the class can do Co-ops(4th year) in the US. If you are not one of the top 10%, ask other questions pertinent to your status in the class. If you are TOP 10%, keep reading.
2. This is something that the student has to set up by themselves.
3. The office that takes care of it is the same office that used to take care of the FPP. It is the one at the left corner opposite to the International student affair's office at CU.
4. Yes, you have to come back to Mexico to take tests and other things; this is the main reason many students avoid doing clinical rotations in the US during 4th year.
5. Sometimes top 10% dont want to do it so the burros down below might have a chance.
6. Remember to do green book clinicals if you want california. If you want to know the hospitals in california, just google "hospitals", you wil find hundreds of them. My point is that there is not one particular hospital because you have to do book them yourself, take the paperwork, etc.
7. Very few people know of the details since VERY few students have done it.
8. This only the overall synthesis.
9. Good luck

it would be easier if u call SA and talk to labriha [something like that]. I asked the same question to one of the counselors and they told me that I would have to talk to Labriha, because she handles this stuff. I havent had chance to talk to her, but good luck!

First off, I saw that someone mentioned a sixth year for California students. That will not happen. As of right now, UAG is fully approved in California, and it will stay that way. I have spoken to P*t P**k, the contact person at the Medical Board of California, as have several other people in my semester. She doesn't really put a whole lot of stock in the social service. She can't give any kind of a definitive answer, but reading between the lines tells me that California will not have a problem with the new curriculum. Additionally, Dr. M******z S****l has assured me along with others who have visited him in his office that this is a minor issue that will be resolved within a matter of months. It isn't that California disapproves of the new curriculum. They simply want it formally presented to them in writing, which is something that the others states apparently don't need.
