I would love to see the answers to these questions and how concrete and direct the answers will be. The fact of losing "current" 25 million dollars per year havent made them talk to us, I wonder losing a "prospective" 25 million dollars will. Good luck. I am still waiting sitting down.

The last information I have is--UAG could not get anything from AMA. It was a meeting to inform UAG the news of cancellation of 5th pw and not to expect any thing more. -oherwise why the school is not coming up with answer. So the hope is not there any more.

As per the news 50 students are planning to leave. You can read in classified that one of the guys writing here frequently is selling his stuff.

Sorry for the delay. I have been very busy and took me a few days to forward the questions to the school . I received the responses from them wthin 24 hrs. More responses will be posted shortly. They also informed me that any student is welcome to call San Antonio to get into more details discussions about thir particular questions and they don't have to reveal their identity.

Questions specifically sent for answers on the ValueMd websiteWhy doesn’t the UAG change their law of 6 years in Mexico?

Mexico’s Department of Education academic requirement for the Physician Surgeon degree is 6 years.

What is needed to receive a Titulo?

2 years of basic sciences, 2 years of clinical, 1 year of Internado, 1 year of Social service and the Examen Profesional, which is Mexico’s equivalent of the USMLE.

Students that lack a high school diploma or 7th and 8th grade transcripts (who were going to use the 5th pathway). Can the documentation still be accepted, or can exceptions be made so they can go through the 6-year program?

The UAG has approached Mexico’s Department of Education to find a solution to this.

What specific loans are available for 5th and 6th year?

Tuition for the Fifth year is $4,000
Tuition for the Sixth year is $3,500
Loans available – Stafford and Graduate Plus loans and Private loans.
For more information on this check out this webpage -http://www.uag.edu/medicine/financial_after.htm

Can the 5th year (internado) be done in the US? If so, will this be done at a 5th PW sight (i.e NYMC, Mount Sinai) although the program is closed?

Yes – the year of Internado can be done in the US – presently in New York
The Fifth Pathway programs at New York Medical College and Mt Sinai are not closed.

What U.S. hospitals/clinics that are in underserved US Latino communities can we do our servicio social (6th yr)?

The year of Social Service can be done at any facility that is in an underserved area in any of the 50 states – specifics on academic requirements will be made available to the UAG students

What about students wanting to practice in Texas and California? Can they complete their internado and year of social service in the U.S. or do they have to complete them in Mexico?
Students in these states will have to make sure that an agreement between the UAG and the medical school/teaching hospital or clinic is in place since these Boards, as other boards, are strict and they will need to verify whether or not there was an agreement that would provide for an “overseer” of the participants before the student begins the program. These can be completed in the US or in Mexico where the UAG has agreements with more than 100 hospitals.
A student can also do an Internado in the US and do a Social Service in Mexico.

Is the school committed to assisting, through standard procedures already in place, students who wish to transfer, including a commitment for timely and accurate submission of transcripts and school records to other institutions?
The UAG does not have to re-commit to assisting students who wish to transfer. The rumor that no Letters of Rec were being issued is just that – a rumor. Please remember when you transfer most schools will require that you repeat a year – that is their policy.

Sell UAG for PEMEX investment? Are you serious?

Questions on document from middle school and high school should be referred to the Admissions department in San Antonio. Again, these are not UAG requirements these are Mexico’s requirements.

Questions by Bentonmedicine – good questions – will be answered separately.

Do both Internado and Social Service have to be completed as requirements to receive the Titulo? If the answer is 'only internado,' will the UAG go into the IMED &/or ECFMG and modify the requirements that are listed, as they differ from the true requirements?

Both Internado and Social Service are required – as is stated in IMED.

What is happening with Fifth Pathway?

The discontinuance of sponsorship of the Fifth Pathway program is an AMA statement – not a UAG statement.
UAG is working very diligently to keep the Fifth Pathway as an option.
Solutions are not an overnight response – it must be done correctly and not frantically. Please take time to read the Fifth Pathway website page – it may be lengthy but it does provide answers.

nothing new, they probably had to get approval from the lawyers' first. if the last two years are so cheap, I would probably stay in mexico instead of the 5th pathway.

The letters of recommendation ARE being denied to any caribbean school. The only ones provided are the ones for US school or LCME approved schools. This can be verified by talking to the respective lady in charge of providing the ok for these letters. Maybe the questions should be, are you giving letters of recommendation to caribbean schools? I hear that the Dean's letter is also being denied if caribbean shows in any part of the conversation. PLease uagdoc can you send thsi question to them. Thanks

There are some new stuff for some people with these answers but maybe you don't want to hear what you already know. They actually said anyone can call to ask questions, in a way opening a line of communication.
