Sorry Medico dreamer, I am not only selling positive thoughts I am only trying to help current and prospective students make decisions. I don't get paid for the advices. I have not misguided anyone on anything. I think people should be thankful that we have this forum to exchange ideas and people willing to take time from their busy lives to help other UAG students. I have posted many times that this forum wasn't available when I was trying to make this decision. I also advice students to be careful before transferring specially without step 1. The schools you mentioned previously will not keep you if you don't pass the USMLE after a few times(I think you have 3 chances). I know students that have to return back to the UAG after 3 years trying to pass the USMLE or going to second tier schools. Living in Mexico isn't for everyone but for some people 6 years may not be a bad idea if they can learn some medicine. You are right you are going to loose potential income but I am sure that a few students and their spouses gave up 6 figure salaries to pursue their love of medicine. Medicine isn't a field that is going to make you very rich with a few exceptions.

2.Why one has to go for 5th pathway or social service?? the people who are advising for that are pushing for the waste of your 2 years without income + living expenses.
3. Why to be in uncertainty?? Spanish can be learned in 1 or semester in night school. No body will come to you because you speak spanish. You can hire a nurse or PA for that purpose.
4. With all due respect , the people who are advising one to come at UAG are mis guiding. Because you do not know what will happen .
5. Let me tell you, I am not against UAG but the writers like UAGDC are selling only positive thoughts. Which keeps the students with high moral. But it is time for the management to come out and tell what is happening.

Thank you.

Check this link under question 6b ii:

The school has already came out in public through the above document. You may want to call San Antonio to confirm.

It seems that they should be providing some sort of guarantee that if you maintain good grades, pass the step 1, etc. you should have some guarantee. When will the school make these announcements?

Ha ha...

I do not know what the actual placement was. Statisitcs and words can be manipulated. For example, a student asked a person in admin one time what the USMLE pass rate was. He replied that it was about 100%. Of course, this depends on if you are asking first time pass or overall final pass rates after unlimited tries.

The same applies to the residency match. You have to consider how long they waited, if they matched before the "match", etc.

I seriously would not worry about the match, and I am not, personally. I think it may be more competitive without the 5th pathway, as we will all be "foreigners" through ECFMG. Always remember that not everyone in medical school will be a good doctor. The sad reality is that we have students here that should seriously consider another career. Thus, they could be a statistic in the match process. The match is more about you, and less about the school (except the "foreign" part that we are labeled if the 5th pathway is pronounced dead). Thus, if you are intelligent, and have good social skills, I would not worry at all.

I was also told that the UAG had 100% placement in the last residency match. Thats pretty impressive considering the average for ALL foreign medical schools was just 50%. care to comment?

This note is official from UAG, but we already knew our chances after the fifth pathway cancellation. We want new solutions. They say that we can still study 4 years in Mexico and one in New York. What will happen with the social service? We don't have to do it?

I have seriously learned more from conversations with institutionalized, Spanish-speaking, over-medicated paranoid schizophrenics than from anything the UAG admin has ever said.
wow! you LOVE the teachers? Even crazy genetics lady that doesn't know how to draw a punnett square?

or the all-knowing Dr. O*** that has no earthly idea how to teach systemic path and reads WORD FOR WORD off PLAGERIZED Power Points? You know I can keep going on and on about our teachers, with few exceptions.

Overall, I love them. More at the hospital than at ICB. However, there are only about 2 that annoyed me at ICB (as I state in other posts).

As for Dra Olga, she has improved a lot since I first saw her teach. She knows her limitiations, thus tries her best, learns, improves, is receptive to constructive criticism, and I never had any problems talking with her (she was personable and friendly to me). Thus, she makes my list of likable teachers.
