Everyone have an opinion but lets be responsible because someone may make a life changing decision based on our opinions. There are a lot of emotions in these posts and I don't think anyone is gaining anything from it. Among all the current members of this forum, ACGT postings are the most objective because he has been there more than 2 years and he speaks without any prejudice. I do understand that right now things are hard down in Guadalajara but we have to be very inteligent with our decisions. I hope currrent and prospective students think very hard before making decisions. This advice also goes to students transferring to other foreign schools without passing step1, make sure the situation you are going to isn't worst than your current one.
I agree. Find the reasons why you want to come here and decide. It doesnt look pretty right now but there are many other reasons to come here. Good luck

UACJ
U d G

After your second year at UAG, isn't everything supposed to be in spanish ?

Thumbs up

thanks all for your generous information. I am interested in UAG because I love latin culture and speak spanish already. I could probably get in to a US DO school, but I think that even with all the challenges that you may face at UAG, you still come out of it a stronger person that can address very difficult, diverse and adverse situations, which is what medicine is all about. thanks again - keep the information flowing!

Even still the potential problems involving licensure are extremely troubling!

I really havent seen any immaturity from anybody here? weighing options and telling it like it is shows on the contrary maturity and honesty rather than the opposite. I really dont know who you are referring to but please show me a post where immaturity has been shown regarding the 5th pathway issue. Maybe I missed something

Good for you! you should be very young or very old to think this way but if not, it is very impressive of your part. Living in a different country and learning a new language/culture are all very positive adverse situations that will make you a stronger person/physician. Having to do 6 years here and dealing with the current situation is asking for a chronic headache when there are smoother ways to achieve your goal. LIke we say in Mexico, "para gustos hay colores" good luck.

I appreciate your candor. Sugar coating accomplishes nothing indeed.

I did speak with the dean of admissions and she informed me that only 3 years need be spent in Mexico. After that you may do your 4th clinical year, along with internship requirement and social service in a low-income community with a significant hispanic population in the US.

Any truth to this?

I just answered almost the same question in another thread. I have heard about the 5th & 6th years in the US. I have never met anyone that did it, but until now there was not much need. I assume in the next year or so, this area will have to be expanded.

The 4th year in the USA is possible, but do not count on doing it. It is expensive and not available to everyone.

That is a theory, but not an official fact.
